I must say I am really surprised by some of the other customers experiences here. Normally when I come to shop in the evenings, the cashiers are always nice and friendly. Most of them (except for some of the new faces) greet me with warm smiles and hello's and how are you doing. They make me feel like familia each time I come to shop. The workers are friendly and are always willing to help when you ask them something. Take for instance this week where the weather was super hot outside. I brought my little cupcake with me to go shopping on 3 separate occasions. My daughter affectionately refers to the manager as the "Chinito". She always asks where's the chinito? (She knows she's going to get some goodies). 1. The first night, the young asian muchacho manager was greeting customers as they entered and left the store. He was giving high fives to the children and handing out popsicles to everyone (Monday Evening had to be over 80 degrees outside). 2. The second time, the asian muchacho was going around early in the evening giving out candies and high fives to all the children. He was also greeting everyone and telling others to have a good day. I had to remind him that he should be saying good night since it was late afternoon already. 3. The third day, it was super duper hot outside (felt like 90+). The manager was strolling around the store and saying hi to everyone and as usual he was handing out candies & popsicles to all the children. I purchased a 50 LB bag of rice along with my groceries and asked if he could help me load it into my shopping cart. Not only did he put it into the shopping cart, he said it is too hot for me and my daughter to be pushing such a heavy cart around. He insisted on helping us deliver it home and that he did. He walked us to our apartment (2 1/2 blocks away) and went up and down 2 times to help bring the groceries up to my apartment. I tried to give him some tip for all the trouble, but he refused and thanked me for being a good customer. A lot of times the store is super packed with families coming to shop for the amazing low prices. Their produce, seafood and meat are super fresh. When I go to take the bus to work in the morning, I always see them unloading fresh seafood, produce and meat every single morning (rain or shine). Only once have I had a issue with a watermelon that I purchased and when I went to exchange, I spoke to the manager (Young Asian Fellow) who happened to speak Spanish as well (go figure). He directed me to the produce manager and I showed him the watermelon. They exchanged it without any hassle. Other supermarkets give you a hard time and hassle you about any type of returns.

Prices were completely reasonable other than the one garlic clove that ran me a dollar and a quarter, yet this was initial sticker shock and wore away most expediently. Walking with a total bounty equated to five stuffed bags, I thought about preparation for two purchasef items that remain a mystery, with their stems reaching from beyond the confines of the bags with their stalks reaching out to tge sky. The greenest celery I've ever seen with leaves so true and sturd and reaching with the patch, I'm unsure if it was possible to tear a single stitch upon their armor. Shallots, carrors, red onion, swiss chard, kale -- all that grew within the earths soil were still holding the remnants of their former lair and all with powerful stems of beauty.

It takes place every Sunday from 8am-2pm. The vendors are set up next to MacDonald Park off Queens Blvd, and part of the service road and 70th Ave are closed to cars which makes it nice to stroll through. The greenmarket is open year-round, so even in the winter you can still find items like squash, apples, leafy greens, herbs, eggs, and milk.

They are only open on Sundays so make sure to make it early to get all these great products. My favorite reason to go is to interact with the workers. My favorite employee is Pierina; she would always have a smile on her face and was always available to help. When I didn't have cash, she would help me with the debit and credit tokens. I have not seen her in a while so I am wondering what happened to her since she has been working there every Sunday since I can remember. I will try to locate her at other green markets.

One can find anything from flowers to herbs, spices, fruits, veggies, apple cider, Korean pastes, free samples, vegan baked goods, breads, cookies, fish, duck and other poultry, pig products, beef, assorted mushrooms, tamales (the one closer to 78th street is best, but if you're up for a sweet or dessert tamale, go to the lady on 80th), booze, syrups, honeys, NYC groups that take used clothing and textiles, compost, and a recycling book stand where anyone can take, swap, or donate books. I rediscovered the wonderful taste of a great home made blintz at one of the stands and have been going back to him several times to sample a variety of this fare. The blueberry and cheese filling is fresh and plentiful with a shell that is sweet and virtually melts in your mouth.
