I love their large variety, so I kept going back to give them the benefit of the doubt. Clearly, my mistake. I purchased 3 large boxwoods at $250 a piece, plus $100 delivery fee. The gentleman I spoke with assured me they were super hearty, can withstand direct sunlight and assured me again... they would not die. Since the previous round of bushes I purchased from them did. I had my landscapers plant them, all new and nutrient packed soil was used as well. They struggled that summer, but somewhat came back last summer. This year, completely dead. I called and spoke with someone, they told me too bad. It's past the time of purchases. I'm out almost $1000 on these 3 bushes, plus the previous bushes that their employees assured me would survive. I've purchased many perennials as well that also did not survive. I've spent a fortune here only to be told, oh well. Do not recommend! Makes me sad, but I will not be back.

As soon as you drive into the ample parking lot, you are greeted with a working waterfall, the first of many located throughout the Garden Center. The front area of the Garden Center is filled with flowering and evergreen shrubs and smaller sized flowering trees. To the left of this area across the driveway are some of the most beautiful Japanese Red Maples and White Birch you will find in the area. They are all landscape size plants but small enough to take home with you, although delivery is available. You can also find an ample selection of white pine, blue spruce, fir, and Emerald Green Arborvitaes, perfect for screening out that neighbor or providing privacy on your deck. Across from the tree and shrub area is the entrance to the store chock full of your lawn, shrub and tree needs, be they seed, fertilizer or insect, weed and disease control as well as gardening tools. What's really nice inside are the bird feeders and houses, whimsical animal watering cans, wind chimes, sculptures and so much more including outdoor furniture. Walk to the back of the store and enter a courtyard with another waterfall and pond with Koi. The courtyard has birdbaths and fountains and is full of seasonal flowers with brick walkways leading to spacious greenhouses to the left and right filled with hanging baskets, annuals, perennials, houseplants and pottery. Outside the right facing greenhouse is an ample selection of sun and shade loving perennials including your favorites as well as choices you may have never seen before. The Gardener's Choice also carries Coast of Maine products including Lobster Compost and Earthworm castings. They also carry Scotts, Miracle Gro, and Jonathan Green. Need a shed? The Gardener's Choice is an authorized reseller for Walpole Woodworks with sheds on site to choose from. One recent addition is a full service independent florist which is located inside the Garden Center building. It is a great convenience to be able to order arrangements or take them with you on your visit. While there, be sure to sign up for their esalesletter which features money saving coupons once or twice a month. They also have a new Facebook page with monthly gardening tips which can also be found on their website at www.thegardenerschoice.net. It seems everyone wanted to redecorate at the same time! I started working with a designer, Joanna Tisko, last October. She helped me design an odd shaped room and guided me through the decision making process. She was able to provide and excellent design and choice of fabrics, styles and furniture pieces. She matched my new window treatments and was so careful in explaining the details of this transaction to me. This place has a great selection of flowers, vegetable and herb starts which is the primary reason…read morewe come here every early spring. But they also sell a wide variety of bushes, shrubs, some trees, hanging plants, hay, fertilizers, plant foods and decor for your garden. As far as I know, there is no "guarantee" on any of the plants, trees, shrubs, etc here such as there is at place like Lowe's or Home Depot so that should be a factor in determining what you buy here. For most things, the prices tend to be on the high side although the vegetable starts we buy are in the ballpark. They do have some beautiful garden decor like chimes, birdbaths, and the like but these are on the high end. I saw a lovely stone cairn but it was priced ridiculously high for what it was and despite its loveliness I walked away. I wish there were more employees roaming around looking to see who might need assistance. I know it's very busy for them especially during the spring but to have a few dedicated people available to help shoppers would be welcome. We have had to wander about to track staff down if we have a question. Parking can be tight in high planting season so I recommend going early. I will say that despite the ridiculous and extended heat wave we had this summer, our tomatoes have really been going strong. I picked another basketful just yesterday morning and will go out there shortly to see what I have today. We also had an abundance of zucchini and I was thrilled to have lots and lots of zucchini flowers because I love to stuff and fry those. (If you've not eaten stuffed zucchini flowers you are missing a treat and it's worth planting zucchini if just for the flowers). We also had bumper crop of cucumbers coming from just 3 plants. I am thrilled we didn't plant any more! As it is, the neighbors were probably hiding from us worried that we were bringing more over. Three of the tomato starts seemed to whither and die early on even before the heatwave so it's not clear whether that was because the plant starts weren't healthy, our planting error or just the luck of the draw. Overall, with lots of effort on our parts (which is par for the course with gardening) we did well with the plant starts we bought here.
