I've been to Lizard Lounge a couple of times for Open Mic nights. This is a contest for those who perform their music/songs/etc. The interior is pretty warm, nice location: close to subway and bus stops. The menu is simply a bar food, nothing fancy. The best item in the menu is mini-burgers. On the other hand, cocktail and drinks card is rather long, many good choices. I'd recommend this place if you'd like to try something new.

I cannot believe I have not reviewed this place yet. It's okay.... It's true the drinks are expensive. The space can get stuffy. The room can be awkward and doesn't leave much for impromptu dancing. The poles block a lot of views. (In particular the current Sunday bartender looks like a kid lost in the mall, and is so obviously bad at what he does you can't even get mad but just feel sorry for him. I have too many examples to back this statement up to start listing now, but to start, I guess I'll find out next week if he figured out he shorted me $10!?!) All that being said, it's true about the lighting, very flattering. If you're particularly hard up, take you're first dates here - seriously, I think it'll work in everyone's favor! They also get TONS of great tunes!!! The cover charges go from reasonable to WTF!?! I'm not one to generally complain about cover charges because I realize they typically pay the band, so I've only come across "WTF!?!" prices maybe thrice over 3 years... The Sunday night Poetry Jam is a particular love of mine and why this place gets 4 stars in my eyes despite the above discrepancies! The Jeff Robinson Trio is astounding when it comes to backing the feature and open mic!!! They start with a slam which is typically pretty killer, but I really find the band helps sway even the most hesitant of listeners. Performance poetry is a completely different genre which I find sweetly emphasized at this venue with the Trio! Also props for the open mic on Monday nights, summer Tuesdays with Session Americana, and Club d'Elf (usually the 1st Thursday of every month)! This is without a doubt a venue to scope out!

I really like the intimacy of this venue. Like most small venues, it's a great place to enjoy a show as long as it doesn't get too crowded.

Attended a show there in the summer and while the show was great, the venue is in horrendous shape and they don't care. First, they claim to be ADA compliant. That's pretty much a lie. They're wheelchair accessible, *IF* they remember to open the door that leads to the elevator, and ALSO to unlock the door that leads to the venue, HOWEVER, they very often forget one or both of those, but also, they do NOT have an accessible restroom!! Saloon, down the hall, allows use of their accessible restroom, *IF* they're open, but they have cut their hours, and were not open during the aforementioned show. No warning, just no ADA-compliant restroom. This is BAD. I have emailed the venue FOUR TIMES and have been completely ignored. So here we are. A place that used to be quirky but cool, is now just a little craphole that sometimes manages to book good talent. I would definitely advise my friends who produce shows to find elsewhere. Communication is important. So is accessibility. They do NOT care. I was going to be nice and give 2 stars, but you know what? With their willingness to refuse to talk about/include accessibility, they can take their one star and shove it.

Street-side metered parking is easily accessible, and you are just steps from the Avon Hill mansions! Vibe: relatively casual with bar, dining, and outdoor seating options. promptly greeted, seated, and served. Food 4.5/5: - I applaud them for their ingenuity integrating Thai flavors into American fare! Everything was very accessible. - I had the crispy basil burger ($20): minimally spicy, perfectly juicy, nice runny egg, not overpowering in flavor but just what I was hoping for, would get again - my friend had the massaman curry burger ($20) which had more cinnamon than I was expecting; solid burger but not genuinely massaman flavored - we shared the larb parmesan fries ($12): great potato fries with spicy larb sauce, but not anything to dream about - real star of the night was the mango sticky rice sundae ($13): I've had my fair share of these; and this was among the most satisfying ones I've had We didn't get drinks, but they looked incredible. In short, if you're looking for a good, $20 burger with a Thai twist or a delicious mango sticky rice in a casual atmosphere, Black Ruby has got you!

Our favorites were the Mussels in Red Curry Rice Wine, Red Curry Bolognese, Massaman Beef Burger, and Mango Sticky Rice. Each packed with flavor and executed beautifully. The Thai Iced Tea was also excellent, while the Thai Ice Espresso Martini just wasn't for me. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the restaurant itself was clean, cozy, and inviting. The only downsides were that they had run out of their sourdough brioche buns, which I was excited to try, and reservations were tough to get as we had to book about a month in advance. Even so, it's easy to see why this place is so popular. I'll definitely be back and hopefully try some of the burgers with those sourdough buns next time.
