They seemed both arrogant, ignorant, classless, and obnoxiously rude. Happy to provide details: I was there on the chef's birthday, which I guess means the kitchen closes for more than 1.5 hours before closing. I'm the last one to pay because I'm on vacation and the others sounded like locals, and this is where the rudeness and ignorance begins (them telling me they were going to bring me the rest of a bottle that was almost done, and "forgetting" wasn't that bad. The staff were the drunkest ones in the room after all). They offer me a splash of champagne and a dessert confection the size of a quarter as they celebrate the chef's bday. The chef, apparently thinking this was too much kindness and charity for me, asks me if I would like some money too (wtf? Came off as very stingy, poor, and rude). I take a picture of the champagne, and the chef then just takes my glass and drinks it to himself. Ummm ok. Happy birthday a**hole. I try to stay positive and talk to them about our common interest, wine, as I am from California near the Napa Valley. Their only response was "California makes wine? Ha.". It's funny how they covered up their complete ignorance of one of the most internationally important wine regions in the world with their blind pride and snobbery for Italian wine I was buying for 5 euro a glass. I still try to be nice. They were showing me wines I might like, even poured me a taste of one. I did like it. I even offered to buy it to open and celebrate the rude birthday boy. Immediately one lady said "no no no, pagare". They just wanted me to pay and leave. They also said some off color stuff about how it must be nice to be rich and take vacations. Terroni. If you go, just go for the 5-6 euro glass and the atmosphere, and don't expect much of the wine quality or staff competence, class, or knowledge.

However, the owner is famous for being rude with his own staff and clients and the only reason why people stand this unpleasant fact is because the place has a strategic location. I've had problems with the owner twice because I brought more people than expected to the reserved table, a fact in America would actually somehow be managed and absolutely appreciated (bringing clients to the place!). I am used to the American style of "client-centered service", a "mind-set" he seems to completely ignore (it seems that he is doing you a favor if you come to his place). He treats people with a rude manner ignoring "general rules to bring clients back"... and he feels proud of it! The problem might be that he does not like foreigners but at the end we are also clients. Last time I went, I reserved a table for 8 of my surgeons colleagues. At the end, 12 people arrived instead (difficult to manage as normal people talk to each other in hospitals and we hadn't seen in months!), so we "squeezed" and sat at the back room table occupying a reasonable space (impossible to be in the way of others in that table). At the end of the night, the owner told me that was the last time I could come and bring friends to his place... I did not know he could predict things!

However, the kitchen was closed; therefore, we could only order a couple of glasses of wine. The wine was very good and the staff was great: since we couldn't order anything to eat, they brought us a good portion of tarallucci to accompany our wine! That's Italy! Prices are very reasonable.
