I was pleasantly surprised to find beautiful vintage dresses for forty bucks, Mink Pink shorts for twenty five, and some fantastic statement jewellery that was also well priced. When I picked up a long pair of shorts with blue paw prints all over them, I knew they were hipster pants and I had no business wearing them. But I had to try them on anyway. The lovely proprietor insisted very kindly that no, I was not too old to pull off these crazy bloomer shorts. I didn't end up buying them because I imagined the expression on my boyfriend's face if he saw them and I just don't think his heart could take it. I will definitely return to Azalia, the manager was lovely to talk to and has a passion for affordable vintage fashion, as well as a real love of Queen Street, the 'almost secret but not for much longer' up and coming area of Adelaide.

This, apparently, is the effect that the designer wanted to create and it has worked. The only drawback with the stock being a little too well hidden is that if you don't know what you are looking for, you may just well walk out. However, it is worth persevering, when I went there with my daughter to look for earrings, the staff couldn't be more helpful and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble, and, being the only ones in the shop we had three lovely ladies attending to us. The other thing I loved about this shop is that the staff were very down to earth for such an upmarket jewellers. The jewellery itself is lovely and mainly of the more modern variety. You can buy some pieces for as little as $40 and, of course if you have a special occasion or a larger budget, there is a good range of tasteful, modern jewellery.

The store pride itself on great service and the staff are certainly passionate about their craft. You can wander in peace or pull up a spot at the worktable and start creating. Staff will get involved and offer advice if you ask. One bonus is you can bring in old pieces and ask them to help you fix them up or modernise them. Definitely worth stopping in if you're in the neighbourhood. It's at the playground end of the Parade Mall, diagonally across from Coles Norwood. Ok some of them are glass and some are Swarovski crystal and some could be actual pearls, still. If you haven't the faintest idea about beading then I'm just going to give you a little bit of know how so that you don't feel like a complete idiot when you walk in, never a good feeling.You will need crimps (soft metal rings), catches, threading material and finally beads, probably some flat pliers too for crimping. I know that you can make jewelery instore, not a bad idea to talk to the staff and even get them to demonstrate anything you're not sure about, I know these guys are always happy to help.

The styles are common but the details are not, there are some very lovely fabrics with a lot of mixes that feature just a touch of unnatural blended with cotton, like polyester usually and the designs are often replicates what mum or dad may be wearing; it's almost a designer shop for tots with the prices reflecting that, although the quality and price match quite well and it is not super expensive, just high end. These days you can pay that little extra if you know it is decent quality and the kids are going to show some respect for the wear and tear as well. You know, a nice dress or shirt is a nice one, and a muck about one is a muck about one - once that distinction is clear things should last. Not a shop where I would buy for other peoples kids unless I know them very well. A great shop to bring your own if they are at that age where shopping is a new novelty and you want to teach them manners and respect. It's the parents who care. They're trying to show them off like dolls. It's terrible. I'm telling you, it KILLS me. Second of all, it takes away from a child the future experience of looking back at the shitty clothes they were made to wear by their parents. Instead they get to look back and say, 'Oh, gee, look at me. I'm like a fashion magazine.' The only way I can justify this place is for birthdays, weddings or any other special events.

But you'll always find an entire outfit or 3 that you can't pass up because all together it costs you $30.

I've always found the staff really helpful and friendly and they've even rounded prices down for me before which is pretty rare in these places. I think this is because they are paid staff so they have a bit more freedom.
