Dear Kate…read more I just wanted to say a huge thank you for yesterday...it was fantastic! What an impact!...I couldn't believe my eyes when they brought the hog in...I'm not quite sure what I was expecting but it way exceeded what i'd hoped for! The gent and lady who delivered it could not have been nicer. They were helpful, patient and kind and didn't mind performing in front of an audience! They allowed everyone to take photos and didn't seem rushed. They were professional and efficient. You have also been both kind and understanding, allaying my worries and regularly updating me with what the order of events were. The whole experience has been first class I feel you offer a very professional service yet still maintain a personal touch. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and my oldest son took the remainder of the hog back to uni to feed all his housemates...what a very happy bunch they were! I shall have no hesitation in recommending your company in the future. Many many thanks Wendy Hall Sent from my iPhone

Our room was beautiful and there was home made flapjack waiting for us on arrival. We had a lovely drink of English fizzy champagne before our meal. The food was so incredible, everything was presented beautifully. The dessert was gorgeous. Breakfast the next day was also delicious with homemade granola and then smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. I'd heard amazing things about the food from friends and I was not disappointed! If you're in the area, definitely dine here. The hotel itself is beautiful.

Of course it is a hotel so you can rest your weary head there but it also has a fine eating emporium. Oh yes it does in pantomime style action. This is grand dining with fresh, seasonal and local produce all whipped into some luscious creations. Try the oak roasted salmon fishcakes to start with. They almost melt in the mouth. For a main I went for some mushroom fun (ghi). Sorry bad pun alert! The steaks are cooked to perfection though or you can stick to chicken, duck or whatever takes your fancy. Excellent puddings as to be expected and a totally extravagant dining experience all round. Don't expect it to come cheap, it doesn't but we all need a total blow out sometimes in our lives. We salute you.

BUT, Trev arranged suprise trip here in June. We only stayed one night, but what a night. Our room was one of the new ones, happily not new room, just newly decorated, had lots of old features, was clean, tidy and had everything we needed. We booked in and went out exploring for a while, came back and got a bottle of house wine, 2 glasses and a cooler to take up to the room while we got ready for dinner. Dinner was first class. The food was well prepared, well served and there was plently of it. I had the best king prawns I have ever had followed by duck which was cooked to perfection. Trev has sea bass ( I think) and that was delicious too. We don't really do desserts, but folk around us were smacking their lips at theirs, so they must be good too. The wine was a little on the expensive side and nowt flash, but not bad enought to really complain about. We will defo be back as soon as possible, for longer hopefully, and we have recommended it to all our mates, especially those who like a bit of Jazz with their dinner.... nice

Breakfast was in the restaurant and there was plenty of cereal, fruit juice and cooked items available which was cooked to order. Delish! The bar prices are expensive. The meal we had in the restaurant was lovely, service was excellent. The prices were expensive. £45 for 3 a la carte courses and £25 from the other menu. You could pick and choose off both. I firmly place Salt's in the category of local hidden gem. A charming little shop, it is packed to…read morethe rafters with whole Italian sausages hung from the ceiling, beautifully presented pasta and oils, chutneys and jams. Priding themselves on creating a Spanish-style delicatessen, Salt's have gone to great lengths to import an intriguing selection of hams and cheeses. This provides wonderful variety, but Salt's clearly understands the importance of locality with regards to their ingredients. Their sandwiches and salads are made using Yorkshire outdoor reared dry-cured ham and sausage, cheese from the Hawes creamery and various chutneys from the Ripon based Elizabeth Smedley range. Salt's came to my rescue recently by solving the problem of what to buy a couple for a Golden Anniversary gift. Their Spanish Hamper (£64.75) was a huge success - apparently the fig bon bons and partridge pate were the stand-out items. The price definitely makes it a special occasion gift, but the presentation and quality of the products are exceptional. A fantastic range of hot specials are available daily, a recent favourite was a deliciously succulent chicken and chorizo stew with vegetable couscous (£5.95 for an extremely generous portion). The local sourcing of ingredients and the involvement that Salt's has in the local farmer's markets, give this business a positive community feel, worthy of support.

My plan was to create hampers for my dearest and I needed the final few items - I wanted a mixture of food, drink and non-edible gift items and I'd sorted most of these at a variety of places but for the finishing touches! Having been advised that Salt's was *the* place to go for hamper-type goodness I wasn't disappointed. The arrangement of the shop is delightful to begin, as you wander through the door you're greeted by a veritable cornucopia of goodies. It's filled to burst with meats, cheese, chocolates, pickles, pate, chutneys and more. Can I say "yum"? Whilst the lunch time offerings come at a hefty price I can only imagine the delights one might experience in consuming some divine looking goods! Now to the hampers. The friendly lady asked me if I needed a hand and I explained that I was compiling my own hampers, but I needed the baskets and a few more final treats. She was only too happy to help me, in spite of the fact that they had their own ready made hampers (which looked fantastic!) and readied two baskets whilst I picked up a few extras. I opted for some of their specialist chocolate, the sea salt and rose varieties I can personally recommend having sampled it after Christmas, a few of their pates and some other added extras. Everything went down brilliantly and my folks couldn't be happier with their selections. As an extra bonus the lady even allowed me to take some of her cellophane wrapping to finish off the presentation, which was extremely kind and at no extra cost! A truly delightful deli with a hoard of specialist delights - worth every penny!
