As I imagine many are, I was reluctant to buy a grand piano over the Internet. After searching in Southern California for almost a year, I never found the piano I wanted at a fair price. I was specifically looking for a Baldwin model L. I found one on living pianos and struck up a conversation with Robert and Florence. After talking about it for a month or so, reading reviews online, and reviewing YouTube videos showing their expertise, I decided to go for it. I purchased the piano in early January. Robert and Florence were very responsive and kept in communication about shipping times. they arranged for shipment to California through Expert Piano Moving. Shipping costs were included in the purchase price so it was nice to not have a surprise there. My new piano arrived on February 2. The piano movers were professional and clearly knew what they were doing. They had my old piano removed and my new piano set up in a little over an hour. I can't say enough about Robert and Florence! Such great customer service, and the pianos are absolutely beautiful. I bought a stunning upright for my daughter and the sound is fabulous. Also, all of the pianos have beautiful benches as well! If u shop for a used/refurbished piano, typically the piano companies I went to have the ratty benches that originally belong to the piano. These benches are replaced or refurbished as well. Most of their clientele are online, but if you live in Cleveland this is a wonderful place to visit. So many beautiful grand pianos. Also Robert is extremely knowledgeable about the instruments he has and about pianos in general. I also got to enjoy hearing him play! I would highly recommend Living Pianos! read more

I did a very scary thing...I bought an expensive, used grand piano that I had never seen or played from somebody I have never met who had it shipped 500 miles by piano movers I didn't know. I recently purchased a brand new Mason & Hamlin 50 upright piano from Living Pianos. Robert Estrin was responsive to my emails in a timely manner, and I thought he was also a very fair, no-nonsense negotiator in the sales process. (Being a concert pianist he is also someone who you can trust "knows their stuff" when it comes to pianos). The piano arrived as advertised, in brand-new pristine condition. It is a typical Mason and Hamlin; powerful, colorful, with sustain that lasts forever. It has a substantial feel but at the same time is very balanced and easy to control with the new WNG action. I would recommend a Mason & Hamlin 50 to anyone as a home instrument, or for small performance venues looking for a top-shelf upright that will outlast other pianos. I purchased a Knabe grand piano from Living Pianos in December, 2019, for delivery in January, 2020. At the time, I asked them for a trade-in allowance on my own Knabe grand piano, and was told my piano was worthless; that there was no market for it, and the most they could do was not charge me to haul it away. Just three months later, my old Knabe, same serial number, was listed on the Living Pianos website for just under $10,000. I would have been happy with a $2,000 credit, and let them fix the old piano and sell it. No problem. But to lie and say they were going to junk the old piano is the height of corrupt business practices. Once the piano was delivered, with some broken and nonfunctional parts, Living Pianos stopped answering my emails and never sent the tuner for the complimentary tuning. After I called Living Pianos and told them that I had seen my old piano listed for sale and I was planning to leave a lousy review on Yelp, the tuner finally came (actually, two tuners had to come; the first one did a terrible job), but there are still rattles and the soft pedal still doesn't work properly. I gave up on them. The experience was too enraging. I have kept quiet about this, and also about their not fixing the new piano properly, because I don't like raising a ruckus. The only reason I am writing this review now is that Mr. Estrin has had the balls today to publish a video titled "Can You Trust a Piano Salesperson?" Do do him credit, he doesn't actually say you can trust him, but that's certainly what he would like you to believe. Don't buy it. If Yelp let me, I'd give him zero stars. read more

Never thought buying piano online is possible but Robert changed my way of buying piano in the future. bought a steinway from Robert with an additional QRS player system installed. the 3rd party player system installed messed up the piano but Robert kept his promise and brought the steinway back to performance level all at this own expense. We recently had a quest to upgrade to a grand piano (target spring of 2016). We had a whirlwind search down in San Diego, and with some research and recommendations from pianoworld.com, we found Robert's store. We worked with Shon on the phone and through emails. We went up to the store early Thanksgiving week. A little background about us. We are both pianists. My significant other is a professional traveling jazz pianist and also works casuals at Disneyland. I have a small studio of neighborhood children whom I teach. Both of us have degrees in music. We have a beautiful 10 year new Schulze Pollmann upright (handmade in Italy). Our dream piano is a brand new Steinway B, but of course the budget just wasn't there... OK, back to the store. One thing I totally dislike is snake oil piano salesman. We encountered a few on our quest. I encountered many more when I purchased my upright new in 2005. If that's what you like, don't go to Living Pianos. When we walked in, we were greeted kindly, then left alone. PERFECT!!!! From there we commenced playing various grands. There was not one out of tune or poorly prepped piano. While each had its own personality and feel, they all sounded quite lovely, and had responsive touch. As we continued to play, Shon asked If I was the one who had called and emailed... I said we were. He said, "Take your time, let me know if you have any questions. We are different here, no high pressure." So we milled about for an hour or so. We came to a Baldwin L and a Baldwin SF-10, both gorgeous sounding. My sig. other had business to take care at Disney so we said good bye. We also had 2 other stores to visit in the Anaheim area. We visited only one of the two other stores because of the time constraints, and although nice pianos, we just didn't quite get a feel for any of them, not to mention we were watched and listened to our every move. So, I went home, slept on it... woke up and said, I want one of those pianos. I wasn't quite ready to purchase the SF-10 as I would have had to wait til the spring for the money. BUT, I had almost enough for the L. I called and made a reasonable offer, which was about what their Black Friday Pricing would have been. We go a cashiers check, went up on Friday, paid. The piano was delivered the following Monday morning (right after Thanksgiving). I didn't have to trade in my lovely upright, so we now have 2 pianos for duets. ANYWAY, I digress with my personal story... The business ethic is fantastic. We met Robert and his wife the second visit. Both were wonderful, personable, and kind. Robert told us he is able to be picky about the pianos he puts on the floor. People call every day wanting to consign their pianos (some junk, some diamonds in the rough, some perfect as is), so he has a plenty to pick and choose from and can eliminate the junk. He has some of the best tuners come in to ensure the pianos are in fine form and impeccably regulated. My piano has new hammers, refinished, newer keys... It plays like new. Very responsive, and has a tone that is indicative of the quality of a fine American made piano. Included in all piano purchases over $5000 is free delivery and tuning. We had a tuner come to tune the piano about 3 weeks after it was delivered and he said it was about as good as it gets. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it. (I was a bit relieved as my tuner was unable to go up with us when I made the final payment. We really gave the piano a thorough look, and we have a good idea what to look for, but we are not technicians. I wasn't too worked, but it was great to have my mind put at ease.) Great service, sensitive sales ethics, quality product... What more can a musician ask for? I highly recommend making the trip to Living Pianos anytime! You won't be disappointed. What an assortment of pianos in this store! Their technicians do a superb job at voicing and regulating the pianos. The prices were not exorbitant. I was just driving by and had no intention on purchasing piano. I wanted to check it out because of the helpful videos Robert has on YouTube. It was great meeting Robert in person. No high pressure sales stuff like I have encountered at other stores. There were several technicians working at the store while I was there and they all seemed top notch. After watching them I realized this is a store to trust. They don't just slap a piano together and push it out the door like other stores. I had been looking for a Steinway piano, model L or O for months. I traveled from Jacksonville to Orlando, Ocala, West Palm, Ft Lauderdale making 15+ different trips and everywhere I looked I could not find the Steinway of my dreams. I ran across Living Pianos.com and started listening to Robert's recordings on the various pianos for sale. One day he had a Steinway L that had been rebuilt. The recording was superb so I contacted them and arraigned for a trip to CA to meet Robert and see the piano. After several hours in the showroom it was evident that this Steinway L was the piano I had been looking for. It had the even tone through out all registers and the sound was there that only a really good Steinway can produce! And to top it off this amazing piano was thousands less and in much better condition having been rebuilt by Robert! Robert and Florence are amazing people! I can't recommend them highly enough. We purchased a Mason and Hamlin baby grand from Robert several years ago for our daughter and thought it would be our last and forever piano. Unfortunately, my husband was transferred out of state and we needed to downsize to an upright. We knew immediately Robert was the only one we could trust. My daughter also plays the flute and was encouraged by her music teacher to upgrade her instrument. When my husband contacted Robert concerning our piano he also mentioned that we were looking for a flute. Robert told my husband he may be able to help with both. We visited Living Pianos and met with Robert and his sweet wife, Florence. Florence is a very talented flutist and was selling one of her flutes. She had a beautiful Haynes flute that she has owned for years. It was obvious that she loved this flute and treated it like a "fragile glass slipper". It was a beautiful instrument, in pristine condition. Neither my husband nor I knew anything about flutes. We had done some research on the internet prior to visiting the Living Piano store but were in no way knowledgeable nor did we know what questions to ask. We knew from our previous experience that Robert was an honest and trustworthy businessman and genuinely wants to help his customers find what they are looking for. We knew we could trust Robert and felt confident he would assist us in making the best decision. Thanks to Robert and Florence we left Living Pianos that day with an amazing Kawaii upright piano and the beautiful Haynes flute. Robert and Florence made it all happen. They took care of the original Mason and Hamlin baby grand we had previously purchased and made downsizing to the Kawaii piano and purchasing the Hayes flute a smooth transaction. They came the next day and took the baby grand and replaced with the Kawaii upright. To top if all off they are going to take care of moving the piano to our new home in Washington. My daughter's music teacher was thrilled when she saw her new flute. She said it could have taken years or maybe never to find a flute of that quality in pristine condition. Needless to say that just reinforced what we already knew, that trusting Robert and Florence was a great choice! First, I am surprised there aren't more positive reviews of this store on Yelp. Second, after several trips to other local piano stores in Orange County, CA, we could not find the right piano for our young kids. We wanted something that we could afford but we loved the idea of a classic piano of the American piano golden age. We looked to the internet, researched and came to Livingpiano.com where it leads us to Livingpianos.com. Robert's piano store of restored and new pianos. We made a trip to the store and knew exactly the Baldwin model R we wanted. But after demo a few songs; we liked a different Baldwin model R. We ended getting a 1938 Model R Baldwin. We got our piano within 2 hours staying in the store and it was delivered to us the next day. The piano is in an excellent shape and the kids' piano teacher loves it.
