This is an absolutely wonderful place to hike with incredibly interesting massive rock, boulder…read moreand shear cliff formations throughout most of the trails. The spot was formerly the hunting ground for native Americans who inhabited the surrounding; natural rock formations provided temporary shelter and living space while local tribes were on the hunt. All trails are clearly marked making this spot a fascinating way to spend and hour or two taking in the reservation's natural beauty.

The Enfield Soldiers' Monument is a 6' high figure of a Union soldier. It was dedicated by the City…read moreof Enfield way back in 1885. The soldier has a mustache and holds his rifle. He stands on a huge 4-sided base that's decorated with all kinds of things; a sculpture of an eagle and shield, and the military symbols for different branches of the armed forces. Some of the symbols are an anchor for the Navy, two crossed sabers representing cavalry, crossed cannons for artillery and a bugle for infantry. There are four plaques at the base of the statue -two for the Civil War and two that were added on years later. One each for World War I and World War II. A plaque on the front reads: IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF ENFIELD WHO ON LAND AND SEA PERILED THEIR LIVES FOR UNION AND LIBERTY, 1861-1865 ---------- ERECTED BY THE TOWN OF ENFIELD A.D. 1885. The other plaques are dedicated to those who died at the infamous Andersonville prison during the Civil War, and those lost in WWI and WWII. The Enfield Town Green is a bonanza for those that appreciate Veterans monuments. There are three…read morein pretty close proximity of each other. The newest monument was dedicated in 2012 and it honors the broad spectrum of vets from all branches of the service. It isn't dedicated to those of any specific war, so it really honors all vets across the centuries of American history. It's a gorgeous monument made of high-gloss reflective black granite. It consists of eight columns of variable heights that form a sweeping arc. The six middle columns honor a different branch of the armed forces: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. Each panel carries the respective etched logo and motto for the branch it represents. The two end columns contain these inscriptions. Left Column: "This space is dedicated to the veterans of our community who served the nation in time of danger." Right column: "Some are with us still - Many have gone on ahead - Often they responded to a whisper from within - Others rallied to the call - All gave some - Some gave all." It's an absolutely beautiful monument.

This monument was a joy to conceive. The committee of town folks who worked on it were motivated by…read morea sincere respect for veterans. Some aspects of the design of the monument need to be pointed out. The height of the columns reflect the height of an average person. The sloping tops of the columns and the semi arc of their placement represent "embracing arms". When you stand front and center you will see your reflection in the six major columns. This feature allows the observer to be part of the monument. The overall concept was for the monument to be all inclusive and for all time. The words I wrote for the two flanking columns do not mention a gender, place, time or specific town. As the observer reads the inscription in the "here and now" they realize the inclusiveness of the overall design.

Love of reading and…read morelifetime learning. The Putnam Library is a small library in a small town. As far as I can tell it was built in 1955 and is not one of the grand and historic ones frequently found in New England. But if definitely is a nice library, The staff here were very friendly and gracious and were a great source of information. They could tell you just about everything you could possible want to know about the library and the Putnam area. Librarians like this are a treasure, a resource that is inreplaceable . The library itself is pleasant with plenty of places of sit and lovely ceiling and windows. Plenty of computers and the usually library stuff. Not a stunning grand old library but a practical and useful place. Definitely not a place that will shock you with it's elegance and aesthetic wonders. But a pleasant and useful place to find a book and perhaps do some research.

Pros: New Playground, new building (5 years) Open late…read more Cons: Unfriendly staff, and despite the website depicting a spot inside for closed drinks and snacks to be enjoyed away from the books, we were told there is none (Not at any of the many tables inside, countless rooms with tables inside, benches etc) The Librarian in the main room had a snippy attitude and told me to go back outside to sit at the picnic tables. I tried to explain we just came in from the playground because it's too cold, I have a Brain Tumor and cannot stay outside for long periods of time when it's windy and/or cold. She shrugged it off and reiterated no food in the Library, at all. So, I asked about the bench we saw before we walked in and she started babbling about people ordering takeout and eating it on the bench, in the lobby (not in the Library, so no books, which was her main argument) After wasting a good 5 minutes going back and forth and me mentioning that it says there is a space inside, on the website and repeating that I have a Brain Tumor and my son is Autistic, she finally agreed to let us eat at the bench if we were "discreet" After setting up hand towels opening the food containers I packed food in and placing the covers underneath them for better support, my son spreading his plushie friends out and setting the drinks out and opening one of the snack trays, an extremely RUDE and arrogant man (looked to be between 45-50 years old) with thick frame glasses and Blonde curly hair, which is being taken over by Grays, abruptly said , "You can't have food here." I tried to explain that the Librarian said it was okay as long as we're discreet and clean up, but before I could even get a full sentence out, Mr. Arrogant cut me off and said, "Yeah well, One person ruined it for everyone. They had food here and left a mess." He then stormed off. We were packing up and trying to think of an alternative place to eat where my Brain wouldn't freeze and Mr. Arrogant came back the other way and my sweet little boy said, "Excuse me, do you know of another place we can eat?" Arrogant breezed by and completely ignored my son. We were forced out into the cold and wind to sit at an old wooden picnic table that has paint chipping from it and wood pieces sticking out of it. It was getting dark, Mosquitoes were out and it was freezing. The outside is unkempt, trash around the playground. Odd that the Librarian and whoever the asinine man with glasses is, would complain about food and the inside. What kind of a public place, with books or otherwise, treats people this way?? And the lack of empathy for patrons who have medical conditions, is appalling. If it weren't for the playground, I would've given them 1 star. DO BETTER PUTNAM LIBRARY!

Nice that the statue is accessible and at a level where visitors feel like they can almost have a conversation with him, rather than the ones that are so high up in the air, you can barely make out their features. Also with the design as it is, I was able to get a photo next to him, which, in real life, I would have done just about anything to do--of course, that would have also required time travel--but I digress. I was told this was the first statue of an African-American man in Worcester, and they picked one of the best. So nice to see a sports legend like Major honored in this way.

On the first anniversary of that terrible day, the Town of Agawam dedicated this memorial on a…read moregrassy strip in front their Fire Department Headquarters. It's a simple memorial consisting of two granite rectangular columns to represent the Towers of the World Trade Center. The granite blocks are set in a landscaped area with a memorial plaque. The inscription reads: Town of Agawam September 11th 2001 Memorial Let it be known to the world united we stand one nation under God With liberty and justice for all God bless America (Agawam Beautification Committee 9-11-02)
