As far as my opinion of Dr. Van Eeden is concerned, he's incredible. He's also unbelievably busy,…read morebut that is a side effect of our entire medical system. He's always willing to answer questions, educate and is willing to put in work to get it right for his patients. You may read about the secretary's never answering the phone, as it always seems to be an answering service, and that is my experience as well, but that does not detract from the doctors level of care.

I have been going to this clinic on and off for over 15 years. Originally, Dr. Kirkham was my GP…read morebut over the years as she went on several mat leaves I also started seeing Dr. Shmulz. Both are fantastic, attentive, have a great bed side manner and most importantly listen and are open to hearing new information brought in by the patient. Also, when I frequented alternative treatments (naturopath, acupuncture) they really wanted to know if it was helpful so that they could suggest it to other patients. Now that is a good sign of a great caregiver. I do have to say though that I had one negative experience with another dr there. I don't want to name names but she was abrasive and at a time when i needed some understanding, just pushed prescription meds as the only option. But that was just one incident and I never booked in with her again. It can be hard to get into this clinic but if you aren't in a rush you can put your name on the wait list.

After being a patient here for 10 years no one reached out to me to let me know my dr is retiring…read more I called to make an appointment as usual. That was when I was told my dr is retiring in a week and she was too busy. I asked to see any dr just to refill my prescriptions. I got an appointment with dr LAURA HARPER. I told her what I needed refilled and she said okay no problem let me just call you back in a few days BUT she lied. A few weeks later I called and the receptionist told me dr LAURA HARPER said she won't do it because i'm not a patient anymore. I was still a patient their at the time of my appointment but she purposely waited until I wasn't. All I needed was my prescription medication that i've gotten manys times refilled. Now I no longer have a dr and am left without my meds.

Moving here to Vancouver from the States 18 months ago, I had no idea how the Canadian, or the…read moreprovincial BC medical system worked, nor did I have a GP here for myself or my family. I was SO lucky to be referred to Dr. Brian Yau here (and lucky that he was taking new patients, too). In the past, when I lived in Seattle, it took me a while to find doctors and dentists that I "clicked" with. I always felt that it takes a team effort - me and my doctor, - to be most effective in my staying/being healthy. So it's critical that I'm comfortable with my doctor to talk openly with him or her. It's in my best interest to "click" with him/her. And it's critical that he/she be knowledgeable, receptive, accessible and helpful. Bonus if the office staff is friendly and works with me and my schedule. Dr. Yau and his office staff are all these things, and more. They've fit me in the Dr's schedule ASAP when I needed to be seen. Dr. Yau is working with my WA doctors to follow up on past conditions and provide continuity of care. He takes the time to patiently go over all the many ways the system here differs from that in the States, and helps me navigate my way here re: blood work, referrals to other medical specialists, etc. He's also been incredibly helpful for my daughter, too. Another bonus here: Dr. Yau is incredibly prompt. (I always get irked when kept waiting and waiting, appointment after appointment, at doctors' and dentists' offices. It's as if my time isn't respected at all. Sure, once in a while is understandable but when it happens regularly, it really rubs me the wrong way). Dr. Yau has always seen me within 5 minutes of our appointment time. To me, that is yet another sign that he cares about his patients. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Yau and the office staff here. My only caveats (which are admittedly minor): no free parking or validated parking here, and no wi-fi in the office (bummer). Otherwise, this practice here is stellar. I consider myself super lucky to be a patient here.

I started as a patient of Dr. Nguan while she was on maternity leave and ended up seeing her locums…read morewho were all great. Then I met Dr. Nguan and she is one of the most kind hearted Dr's I have ever been to! It took me years to find a Dr that would take on new patients and to luck out and find the most amazing Dr in the city is just amazing! The reception is great, they are friendly and helpful. After being to a lot of clinics with extremely rude receptionists this really tips the scales in their favor! They always work with me to find an appointment that will suit my schedule which is really important for me since I don't live or work close to the office (but it's worth the travel!) I believe one of the locums I saw Dr. Bergman now works in the office as well so if you are looking for a male Dr he is also amazing!

This is not a regular doctor's office, but part of the UBC students' training. About 10 doctors,…read moreone nurse (for pap exams), one dietician are here, to supervise the students. As a result, each appointment starts with the student coming in and asking about your symptoms. She may perform small exams as she fees fit, then go confer with your doctor. Then, they both come in and offer prescriptions or whatever is necessary. I like this because I get a thorough inspection and the student usually narrates what she is doing (feeling the lymph nodes, etc.). I happened to go twice a month apart, and the student was different. So, this setup is not for people who want to see one doctor quickly and get out. Apparently, they are funded by the government by how many patients are registered there, as opposed to the usual offices being reimbursed per patient visit. This is why they ask patients to always come to them, and not go to walk-in clinics. I have been able to book an appointment with my doctor the day I call. If he is not available, they offer an appointment with another one of the doctors. The official address lists it as on Oak St, but it is deep inside the hospital complex, so it's easier to get to from the parking lot entrance on Heather at 29th Ave. Follow the sidewalk on the north side. It's the building after the first crosswalk. Go up the ramp on the corner.

Having recently moved to downtown Vancouver I was in desperate need of a good family doctor nearby…read more One of my coworkers suggested to visit Dr. Ip's practice as she was taking in new patients. I called the next day to make an appointment and the receptionist was curteous and professional. She booked me in for an appointment approximately 2 weeks afterwards. When I came in to the clinic I was very impressed by the cleanliness and the modern decor. Being a gay married man I was looking for a doctor who would be non-judgmental and approachable. Dr. Ip was exactly that. She interviewed both my husband and I in a very friendly manner. She was thorough and I didn't feel rushed as we were talking to her. She listened carefully to our concerns and noted them on her computer. She also gave us a couple of referrals - the whole process was very smooth. I am looking forward to having Dr. Ip as my family doctor for many years to come.
