I re-visited the office. The front task staff members were friendly and Dr. Liu was nice and thorough.

While the doctors here are excellent, my experience with the front desk was extremely disappointing…read moreand frustrating. I mistakenly went to the wrong location and had to drive to the Oak Meadow office. I called ahead to explain the situation, and the front desk staff informed me there was a 10-minute grace period and encouraged me to try to make it in time. I arrived right at the 10-minute mark (at most 1 minute past), only to be told that I needed to reschedule my appointment. What made this especially frustrating was the lack of basic courtesy and consistency. I had already called to inform them I would be late, yet instead of clearly telling me then that I would need to reschedule, they asked me to come anyway--only to turn me away upon arrival. When I politely requested if they could still accommodate me since I was already there, the request was dismissed rather abruptly. This experience felt unnecessarily rigid and inconsiderate. A little flexibility or clearer communication upfront would have gone a long way and saved me a wasted trip.

And it was a great experience, first off the location is super cute nestled in the trees and easy to get to. The front desk staff was warm and welcoming. My doctor was great very nice and knowledgeable, granted it was a fairly straightforward procedure. I was seen on time and he was very clear in walking me through the process, the procedure was quick and painless. And I healed up perfectly in about a week. I had such a pleasant experience I also booked an eye exam which candidly I haven't had one in decades so I was WAY over due! Dr. Lee was great at doing the exam and talking through any concerns and his recommendations. I then meet with Maggie who was helpful at picking out the right pair of glasses and understanding my vision insurance. All and all I really enjoyed my experience. Everyone was knowledgeable, nice and welcoming. I'll be coming back next year for eye exam.

I need to tell everyone just how special Dr Engelman is…read more In October of 2014 (I was 69 at the time), Dr Engelman did my 2nd glaucoma surgery - this one on my left eye. A couple of days after the surgery, I woke up around 1:30 AM and noticed that I could not really see anything out of my left eye - everything looked 'very cloudy'. I called his emergency number and explained what was going on. The lady I talked to put me on hold. About 2 minutes later, Dr Engelman was on the phone. He asked me what I was experiencing. I described my symptoms and he said "Meet me in my office as soon as you can get there." We got there around 2:30 AM. Dr Engelman was there waiting for us. He measured the pressure in my left eye. It was down to 2. I had good reason to be scared. He told me that everything looked OK and that the pressure would come back up. I went home and by midday everything was OK. So if you take Dr Engelman as your Ophthalmologist, I am quite sure that is the kind of service you will get. I am now 80. I do not live in California anymore as we moved to Arizona in 2016. My eye pressures were between 20 to 26 when I went to Dr Engelman. For the past 11+ years they have been a consistent 10 to 11. I've had some very good doctors in my lifetime. Dr Engelman is the best I have ever had.

I'd have given only one star due to my frustration with a paid-on-the -same-day charge for the course of over a year. The extra star is for Dr. Wu's knowledge herself and one nice staff by the name of Ann/ Anne over the phone who tried to help. But honestly, the whole experience was very frustrating that sure was not star performance. I paid Dr. Gloria Wu's office in full both times in the office (Oct 10 and 17, 2024) for my two visits with receipts in my hand, and I am still getting multiple emails and bills from them. The most recent one was as of last night ,in the mail, to my home(February 2026)! Dr. Wu is a great doctor. Very knowledgeable and thorough. Just was surprised how unorganized the billing could be. My case was simple. Two visits, two receipts. Paid on the same day as the visit. One credit card payment, and one check. Period. Suddenly I got an email in August 2025, almost 10 months after my visits, that I still owe them $521.00. I was shocked. Called and fortunately be able to speak with a real person (her name is Ann/Anne). She told me to email them the proof of payment, and I did. She was nice, and did apologize for the confusion, and reassured me that it will be taken care of. I did not hear anything back from them so I assumed it was taken care of and record updated. Four months later in January 2026, I got another email from apparently a medical billing service from Dr. Gloria Wu MD, that I still owe them the same amount. I tried to call two times and both with recording saying mail box full! I emailed them and finally there was the one respond to request for my proof. So I emailed them the proof. (My credit card receipts from the office, and a copy of the line item from my credit card statement), the second time. Two weeks later in early February I got the same email with the outstanding balance again, like nothing was communicated! I emailed them again, stating that I have submitted the proof of payment, and sent them another copy via email. No response. Then last night (Feb 23,2026) I got an paper bill in the mail, to my home for the same charge! Unbelievable! I called the number on the actual invoice which looks like a local number and left a message. Ann (or Anne), which sounds like the same lady from back in August 2025, called me back in the morning (thank God, some real response). So now, as of this morning, I just emailed the proof of payment AGAIN , enlarged, showing their credit card receipt to me, and the line item from my credit card statement back in Oct 2024! Never thought I have to go through this hassle with a doctor's visit with which I paid the service in full without going through insurance (they didn't accept my HMO plan). Even Dr. Wu is a very knowledgeable doctor, the office administrative flaws like this can really affect patients' perception. I'd have given only one star due to my frustration with a paid bill over the course of over a year. The extra star is for Dr. Wu herself and Ann/ Anne, who has been courteous and the only responsive person I could speak too. Patients, especially paying the bill in full during the visit who don't have the doctor's office going through insurance, should never have to go through all these! Dr. Wu's office also charged me 4% surcharge because I paid with a credit card. This is another thing that I felt annoyed. I have no choice at that time since I didn't bring my check book with me. None of any other medical offices I have attended charged additional service fees for credit cards. This was a surprise for an established and reputable doctor's office like Dr Gloria Wu. It felt like nickel and diming. I had no choice but to agree to the charge since I didn't want the billing back and forth (ironically see what happened)! I then brought my check book for my return visit. Never thought that a simple , recorded credit card payment for a doctor's visit could be handled so improperly with their billing and dragged for over a year. It's very stressful, time consuming and frustrating. I hope this is it after speaking with Anne and have emailed the proof of payment directly to Dr. Wu's email address (which was given by Anne) would suffice and concluded the whole billing ordeal.

While the optometry services themselves were adequate, I was very uncomfortable witnessing how Dr. Wu spoke to her staff. She was noticeably impatient and dismissive toward them in front of patients, which created a tense and unwelcoming environment. It's unsettling to see support staff being treated poorly, especially since they're the ones greeting patients, handling appointments, and keeping the office running smoothly. Professionalism should extend not only to patients, but also to the team working behind the scenes. I hope Dr. Wu takes this feedback as an opportunity to reflect on how her interactions affect both her employees and her patients' experience. Respect and kindness go a long way in building trust in a medical setting.
