The music was cool, but each time the staff had some shitty attitude to other customers or to us. And it has made our nights not as enjoyable and cool as it could have been. I shouldn't have tried my chance a second time. I am sorry to say that, but if you have an alternative for your (amazing) night, go to the other place, and have fun !!

Since we could hear the pulsing beat of pop, we decided to suck up the 11€ Saturday night cover and found ourselves... in a club where we were the youngest people by at least 15 years. Awkward! Since we'd payed the steep cover, we decided to stick around, and I'm glad we did. The club has a coat check (1.50€), several bars (6€ for well drinks, 3.50€ for Rioja), and four dance floors. The main floor was playing "party mix" that spanned top 40 to older dance hits. The electronic room in the basement had a good beat but was horribly uncomfortable to dance in given the recessed floor is surrounded by awkward people staring down; we only stayed two minutes. The rock room was fun but humid, but the cosmopolitan room was the real gem. Hidden near the entrance off the main floor, this room played an awesome, strange mix of world music, including Indian, Spanish, and Slavic while we were there. Very fun, and not something that's easy to find in the US. The over-40 crowd diluted after midnight as well, so we ended up having a great time despite the rough start.

Nice adaptive reuse, and with the location, not likely to have residential conflicts in the future. Likes: Bar areas in the concert area, and one just adjacent for getting a drink or two and still hearing the show without issue. Some seating in the outer bar area for those of us with a need for that on occasion (bad back = need to sit down once in a while) Dislikes: In spite of the no smoking signs, some douchebags were still lighting up in the concert hall, and security was not vigilant in making them stop it. The signs are only as good as the enforcement people. Minus 1 star for that fail. Design issue: The floor is flat, except for a few risers in the very back. That means the stage needs to be high enough so that the shorter patrons have some chance of seeing the show over Lurch. I saw some short girls craning to see anything - the stage needs to go up a few feet to improve sight lines for all. Coat check was generally efficient, bar staff multi-lingual and quite nice.

The fun here starts around 1am when it gets crowded, and by fun I mean people getting drunk and dancing awkwardly on the dance floor. There is a smoker room that serves as a shelter from it, but not really, since your clothes will smell like an ashtray within seconds of entering. If you want to party past midnight (and you're in Berlin, so you probably will), don't mind cramped conditions, and tolerate drunkies, then this is your place. Good thing it's open until the wee hours (6am plus). Alte Kantine is love and hate, but I decided for the middle ground. 3 stars.
