As a new mom and new to the neighborhood, I sent my daughter to this daycare because it was so new and clean looking. I expect my child to get sick (which is nobody's fault) but she was out for 1.5 weeks and the only time the director reached out to me was to ask for payment, not a concern or knowledge that my daughter was out for so long. COVID came along, the owner/directly withheld money from our tuition as cleaning fees and credit. I really did not want to go back but covid was a mess to find new daycares so I let both my children go for the summer to utilize the credit that she withheld from me. They leave their school bags outside in the sun before pick up time, a possible "rodent" or animal chewed through my daughter's bag (I don't care about the bag but it's kinda gross to have rodents crawling my children's belongings) but according to the owner, it's impossible. So it must have been either my pet goldfishes or 3 year old son who chewed it out...since it was "impossible"to have rodents outside their building. Friday was pizza day. I gave pizza money but they miscommunicated somehow and didn't feed my daughter. When I tried to talk to the owner, she put her hand in my face and told me "it would never happen again and I had to drop it". Even if I had forgotten to pay, would it be so terrible to feed a child with the half slice of pizza you ordered if she did not have anything to eat? In the beginning of the summer, the teacher told me my son had an accident in his pants, fine, whatever, it happens with kids. Two months later, they returned a bag of soiled clothes to me. It would have been better if they just tossed it. Send in labeled lip balm and sun screen they say, it will be applied if they go out later in the day. Forget it, by the end of the summer, all my sunscreens were brand new. There were many great teachers that worked here but most have left. It's a beautiful new and clean place with lots of potential to be great, unfortunately, when you only look at $ and not use your heart to care for the children that parents trust you with, it will show right through. Not only is this place super expensive, they've got plenty of violations for only the few years they've been open. (Which can be found on the office child and family services website https://ocfs.ny.gov/programs/childcare/looking/ccfs-search.php) Also the director of this place Janice is quite arrogant- during our virtual visit she practically told me to throw my sons routine out the window because it would never be followed in her daycare. And she also said it was "weird" that I asked her if they have cameras that families can use to check in on their babies during the day. As a teacher- selecting a school for my children to go to was a big deal. I highly recommend Little Playhouse- not only is the facility new and clean but the staff is amazing! This is my daughter's third year and my son's first year; they have had fabulous teachers and are excited to go to school everyday. Pre-k through The Little Play House did not meet my expectations. In all honesty, it didn't even meet the bare minimum. I pulled my daughter from this facility after only attending 2 days. As a parent, if transparency, honesty, communication, respect, trustworthiness, and comfort are important to you, then steer clear of The Little Playhouse. Transparency: Not at all forthcoming with information. If you question anything, you will not be met with compassion. Instead, you will be met with hostility and anger from the owner, Janice. No parents are allowed inside and her orientation was a zoom meeting where she spoke for 10 minutes on mute. My daughter and I never saw the "classroom" before attending. The Pre-K "classrooms" are actually one big room in the basement that are separated by a divider. Honesty/comfort: Caught in small, unnecessary untruths. The owner does not like to be questioned, which was a huge problem for me. The trust was broken early on. I did not feel comfortable leaving my daughter in this woman's hands. From my experience with her, she has no business being around children or running a daycare. Communication/Respect: If I could give a negative score for communication and respect, I would! All communication goes through Janice. Unfortunately, she sends impulsive, unprofessional, rude text messages if there is an issue with your child. These text messages were clearly not thought out. Janice will also let you linger with anxiety as she doesn't respond or follow up once her initial text is sent. In my professional opinion as a teacher, if an incident occurs with a child, there should at least be a phone-call to the parents. When I called Janice to get more information on the pending issue, she rushed me off the phone stating she would call me back. She then proceeded to text me saying she actually didn't have time to speak. Face-to-face communication is no better. She interrupts, speaks over you, and has a passive aggressive/condescending attitude. She is very good at speaking down to you as if your opinion does not matter. I've never felt so disrespected as a parent. Trustworthiness: This facility single-handedly extinguished my daughters excitement towards school. After only two days attending, my bubbly, friendly, happy daughter was scared, overstimulated, and so upset. The very mention of school would cause unsettling outbursts and behaviors that were not in my daughters character. My daughter is now thriving in her new school with teachers and staff who go above and beyond for both my daughter and myself. I'm so happy I got my daughter out of The Little Playhouse. read more

My daughter went to Little Playhouse for almost 2 years. We started there when she was about 20 weeks old. Let me start off by saying the teachers there are wonderful. There have been numerous turn overs throughout the classrooms during those 2 years as there are with any job. There have been several occasions where the owner does not inform the parents until right before the teacher is leaving or has left. The only reason we stayed with Little Playhouse for as long as we did was because of the teachers not Janice. We always knew that she was safe and she was well cared for by her teachers. If Janice was in the room more often, we would have searched for other day cares. The building is great, however, when we enrolled her there, Janice advertised (and continues to advertise) that there would be a spray park. To this day, there is no spray park and we keep hearing that "it is at the town". Just make sure not your child doesn't leave any crumbs around the building because you'll get an email stating they are sick and tired of having to vacuum the carpet. Janice somewhat goes by a school schedule. When schools have days off, she is closed but has optional day care for an additional cost. Neither of us are parents therefore we needed those days, the additional cost adds up fast. She also does not alter the price for the month when there are days/weeks off, Like February, December, April and August (all had weeks off). There are other day cares that are not closed during those times that are just as good or better that LP. You are paying more for a school type setting ( as Janice pretty much told me I would not find anything less or equal to than her that would be as good). So let's discuss Janice. At first, I thought the Janice was great, however over time I noticed the lack of professionalism and how she struggles with socializing with parents. I felt more like a child a times when speaking to her rather than a parent. Janice has to be in control at all times. When she is called out on something, she tries to talk down to you or argues with you. There were times there were things that weren't worth the stress of talking to her about. I know I have caught Janice in little lies throughout our time, like what room my daughter was in for the day. My daughter seemed to get moved around from different rooms so she would stay under compliance. Even though I knew where she was, she still lied to me. Other small issues, I did keep to myself since I didn't need the added stress. When Coronavirus began, the lack of professionalism really showed. Throughout this trying time, there was lack of communication or guidance from her on how to continue to work with our child. I od know that other day cares had daily or weekly Zoom meetings, emails and educational pamphlets for their children. She had one Zoom meeting in May with her that lasted maybe 10 minutes. As a none teacher, additional things to do with our child would have been helpful. Janice sent out an email that she was "ordered" to close down in March because of the virus even though all day cares were listed as essential. Both myself and husband had to still work, and not from our home. When questioned about her email about being ordered to close, she diverted the question and attempted to tell me what I should or should not want for my child. Unfortunately, we still had to work and had no choice therefore we needed child care. Needless to say that conversation was one of the last ones I had with Janice because of how unprofessional she was when being called out. When she closed for those 2 weeks in March, did not render any services during those times and she kept our money. She has refused to reimburse parents even though several parents have requested the money back since no services were received and parents still had to pay for child care. At this time, we are working with our credit card company to receive the money back because services were not received from her. Why should she keep our money when she didn't do anything for us? She did not charge for April and May, however for June, she kept 20%, (without us agreeing) of our deposit, which was meant for Junes tuition. We received 80% because according to her, she was keeping it for sanitizing, bills etc, which has nothing to do with us. Because we as a family are not returning (she knew this since December) and she is not opening until June 29, 2020, we are being penalized that 20%. Those families that are returning are not losing the 20%. They are able to use the deposit for another month's tuition or for her camp during the summer. Janice has a tendency to send out emails and texts that are not professional as a business owner. She at times treats us as parents like we are a child, not an adult or even a client. Needless to say the next time we are in need of a day care facility, we will not be returning to Little Playhouse as there are several others that I know have better communication, m read more

We have been very happy with LP! The Pre-K and infant room teachers are amazing and caring. There is a really nice vibe with the parents, too. Both of my kids absolutely love it there. My 4 year old is definitely ready for Kindergarten next year. Most importantly I feel good knowing that my kids are well cared for and happy. read more

We've been incredibly pleased with all of the learning our son brings home. This review is of our experience with this specific facility. It will outline the pros and cons of this location based on our experience. Pros -teachers were great. Took really good care of our child -communication with the owner/director was fairly easy and quick response. -facility was clean and a new fresh product -place was safe and followed all regulations Cons -cancellation/deposit schedule. -locked in for 2 years or lose deposit -closures yearly tally somewhere around 30+ days. Days you pay for and cannot get credited back. You can pay an additional $65 on top of your standard monthly cost to add the extra daycare. -facility is run like a private school not a daycare. Overall we had a positive experience. There are certain policies and closures that do not work for us and that is why we as working parents could continue to use this location. Facility would be great if you are just looking for a place to drop your child and your work schedule doesn't really affect if they are open or closed. read more

This is by far the most stressful child care/preschool experience I have had with my children. I gave two stars because most of the teachers were kind and caring.....but the director acted like a bully, and she had her hand in everything. If you are looking to get feedback from the teachers who care for and observe your child on a day to day basis, it won't happen because all communication must go through the director. I am not alone in my experience because I have spoken to other parents who have had their children in either Dix Hills or Commack locations with the same complaints. I have nothing but great things to say about Little Playhouse . The owner Janice has been nothing but Accommodating and kind. I was so happy they were able to re open for summer. The teachers are amazing and COVID friendly everyone is following Procedure and wearing their masks ! I feel comfortable everyday day dropping my son off . read more
