I attend the Little Hearts CPR class last week with a full class of 9 people, during the hands-on CPR training, my daughter's manikin was not working properly and have to share the manikin with her husband. It would make more sense to have at lease one spare manikin available due to unforseen events like this. The class was three hours long, while she did spoke about child safety during the second half of the training which was on the agenda, however, then she went on talking about having wills for your child, which is more of a legal issues and totally irrelevant. Throughout the class, she kept stating how we all look miserable, I personally think that is very rude!!! Finally, at the end of the class my daughter and her husband got only one " CPR Student Manual" to take home due to the fact that they are a couple! So why can't a couple get their own "CPR Student Manual" when the fee was charge for each person and not for each couple!!! Overall, I feel that she should concentrate on the CPR training and not wasting time on legal issues and trying to be funny by stating the class looks miserable!!! read more

Amy Gross is a seasoned professional and a great teacher. She's like that tough but funny teacher you had in junior high whom everyone respects (and fears ever so slightly) that you never forget. Amy manages class time very efficiently, spending the first half on the hands-on baby CPR and Heimlich techniques, the second half of class on various safety tips, then reinforcing the first part again before you leave. My husband and I completed this course over Zoom and the quality of the content and practice was very high. As other reviewers have suggested, Amy is very fun while also direct. She pays attention to each student to ensure they are correctly implementing the different techniques. If you are not doing something the right way, she will let you know. She was even able to give this feedback over Zoom! The class was excellent. I went as a first time grandmother who has forgotten all the basics of baby safety and needed a refresher - this class was much more than that. Amy was very knowledgable and a great teacher with things like baby CPR (that you perform on baby sized dolls so it feels very hands on) as well as safety around the house, car seat etc. I left feeling much more confident and now that my grandson is born i spend time with him knowing what to do in an emergency. Amy is also very funny and all the safety tips come with a side-order of hilarious NYC snark. This is not like driver's ed with the DMV - be prepared to have fun! read more

I am writing this review because I took this class recently and I feel like the 5 stars it currently holds is too generous. IMO this class is 3 stars at best. We're expecting our first baby in June and wanted to take a course on infant safety, CPR, choking, etc. Based on previous reviews, I had high hopes for this class. Unfortunately I was disappointed so I don't want anyone else to have the same expectations. The class is 2.5 hours. It's in an old classroom with outdated/stained "fake" babies that we had to wipe clean with an alcohol wipe before using. I was willing to overlook this in hopes that the instructor made up for this. Again, I was disappointed. She is a nice woman who knows CPR but I felt like the structure could be a lot better. It felt all over the place. I feel like we listened to her talk and talk more then we practiced the CPR and skills we were there to learn. To be fair, some may like the laid-back structure, but for me, when learning something so important, I much prefer a more serious teacher, a more serious class, more props, a guidebook to follow along, more time reviewing and assessing techniques. Overall, I feel OK about taking the class. Glad I now know about infant CPR and choking. Just wish the 2.5 hours was more intensive and professional. Makes me think a Red Cross class would've been worth looking into. read more

Amy was very good and efficient at covering infant/child/adult CPR, foreign body airway obstruction, car seat safety tips, and other general safety tips for infants and children (burns especially) in such a short amount of time! It didn't feel rushed and we were able to practice the techniques multiple times throughout the class. My husband and I brought his parents since they'll be frequent caregivers for our baby, and it was really helpful for them to have a refresher on infant care and hear updated guidelines. read more

i spent my Saturday afternoon attending Amys 2pm class. She has a great sense of humor which helps pass the time. She is very thorough and tedious w/ the appropriateness of the infant CPR procedure. She also covers important baby safety and car seat knowledge new parents should be aware of. The dolls are sanitized before and after class, they ARE up to date, and the classroom has a calm, clean feel. I really enjoyed her personality, and her cause to spread the word of being prepared for the unexpected. I enjoyed it! If you cant get a sitter, send your wife one day and your husband the next! I attended Amy's class on 11/8/14. The class was very informative and I now feel like I would be able to administer CPR if I had to. This is clearly the #1 purpose of a class like this, and it delivered. I also thought that the additional topics (car seat advice and a bunch of general safety tips) were very useful as well. Lastly, I thought that Amy was a really entertaining teacher. She has a great sense of humor and injected a lot of levity into the class. My husband and I took this class last night in preparation for the arrival of our first baby next week. A couple of months ago, we signed up for a birthing class at our hospital and had a terrible experience. So when I signed up for the standard Infant/Child CPR class with Little Hearts CPR, we were kind of prepared for another class where we'd just sit there and listen to things we already knew and get a lot of handouts and be bored. I chose Little Hearts CPR because of the great number of classes offered each week. It was a little out of the way for us (we live in Queens) but it was affordable and really fit our schedule. From the moment we walked in, Amy kept us informed and entertained. I normally don't care so much about entertainment when it comes to heavy topics like this, but this is kind of a scary subject for new parents, so the humor was actually really necessary. I can see how taking a class like this would be overwhelming if not balanced by lightness, and Amy kept it light and super informative and she always made it clear why it was important that we do certain things. I loved the way she prepared us for the intake of new information--she gave us the skills first and then the explanation of why or when we would need to use those skills. We learned what to do when a baby or child is choking (and what defines a baby and child), what to do when a baby or child is unresponsive, and what to do when a baby or child is unresponsive due to choking. We did a lot of practice on little dolls and Amy was able to provide different sized mannequins for the parents who had children older than infants. She even had adult-sized mannequins to show us how to do the Heimlich on people our own size and on pregnant women and on ourselves. After the hands-on portion of the class, which maybe took about an hour and a half, we transitioned into talking about infant and child safety generally, and then specifically in NYC. This I found incredibly helpful and relevant. Living in NYC comes with its own set of challenges and Amy addressed taxi safety and seat belts. My husband and I thought we had installed our car seat correctly in our new car and we were so proud of ourselves, but after just a couple of second describing to Amy how we'd done it, she realized we had done it incorrectly and made me check the car manual. Lo and behold, we had done it incorrectly. (So now we have to go back and do it all over again. Blurg. But so glad she pointed out that we were wrong.) So thank you, Amy!! This wasn't really a surprise considering how much experience she has teaching about child safety--something like 17 years? We came away with some excellent recommendations for how to prepare our home, routines we can use with ourselves and visitors, and the knowledge to "think laterally" about rules/baby safety lists and not strictly interpret them. We talked about safe sleeping, choking hazards, and when to call 9-1-1. And when I woke up this morning, I woke up to an email she sent thanking us for attending. Such a small little gesture, but very telling of how much she cares about what she does and who she's doing this for. I cannot recommend this course and Little Hearts CPR highly enough--for new parents, for refresher courses (two parents actually were attending the class for a refresher), for family members who'll be spending lots of time with the baby, and for babysitters. It covered infant CPR and so much more: basic infant care, car seat installation and use, baby proofing your house/apartment, etc. Amy even taught us toddler and adult CPR, along with how to do the Heimlich maneuver on people of all ages. We just took Infant CPR class with Amy, and it was great! She is a fantastic teacher - we left feeling like much more confident parents. She makes learning a skill that you never have to use enjoyable...she went over not just CPR but choking, burns, car seat and crib saftey, and lots more. We got hands on practice with an infant doll, and did drills to make sure we were getting it right. We were also given a booklet with all the info we learned in class. Can't say enough good things! My friend & I are both relatively new to motherhood. I have a 9 month old and she has an 18 month old. One day we were discussing how important it is to have a plan if there is ever an emergency with the kids. At first, we weren't sure if this was the right class for us because we thought most of the participants would be pregnant. It turns out, it was the perfect class for us. The majority of the students were parents already, with very similar concerns. Amy taught us things that really everyone should know, even if they are not parents. I would recommend this class to teachers, aunts, uncles, grandparents- really anyone who wants to have a plan in case of an emergency. While I sincerely hope I'll never have to put any of my new skills into practice, it gives me peace of mind knowing I attended the class. read more

Another twin mom highly recommended Amy Gross' Little Hearts CPR class as a critical part of our pre-birth safety preparedness and we're so glad she did. The class was chock-full of helpful safety information, and provided great, hands-on practice of the most critical CPR techniques you need for a newborn, toddler and child. Having taken several CPR classes over the years, I expected the format to be typical Red Cross workbook style - read the pages together, take the quiz at the end and do some practical application. Instead, we dove right into the how-to and had the opportunity to get in lots of practice - not only how to perform these techniques on the class mannequins, but with Amy's detailed explanation of how it would differ in real life and the most important things for which we needed to be prepared. The best part of the class, without question, is Amy's encyclopedic knowledge of all things safety and her thorough deep-dive into the potential pitfalls of having babies/young children in the house (and in NYC!) I participated in this class with my wife and I was not only exhausted going in, but I had no idea what to expect. Almost instantly I knew the class was going to be a "great success". Amy immediately set a comfortable tone and clearly is a perfect instructor for either a small session such as ours or a larger class. She has a great, engaging personality and was able to educate us on very serious topics in a manner that was not challenging to retain. As we are anxiously expecting our first baby, my wife and I have been trying to take in as much information as possible and today's class was no exception. We learned about infant and child CPR and were able to practice our newly learned techniques repeatedly. I typically have no attention span and did not know how I would maintain focus for 2.5 hours but I did so easily and that is a testament to Amy's knowledge as well as her presentation skills. We discussed additional topics such as safety around the house, the importance of proper car seat installations (and where to go to have this done) as well other precautions to take before (rather than during) an emergency. I would recommend this class to anyone who has never participated in an infant CPR class and it is for anyone (not just parents) who will be spending significant time around a baby. At least for me, this class was subpar, particularly for the cost (which was not insignificant). A lot of the time was spent joking and laughing with other participants. I did not attend the class for comic relief. The instructor was also not very receptive to questions and I did not feel comfortable asking any questions. I feel as if I need to go on youtube and get some information on CPR and baby care -- after sitting through nearly three hours of "instruction". It appears from some of the reviews that people like the comedy and quirks. I really wasn't there for that. If the class was organized and focused and serious, it could be distilled to 90 minutes of bona fide information that would be useful (which I did not receive). read more
