Orchard Village is an agency that empowers people with developmental disabilities in their…read morecommunity. Within the year that I have worked with this agency I have worked with adults with disabilities ranging from schizophrenia, autism, down syndrome, tourette syndrome and bipolar. In this field many of the adults I have worked with struggle with many of the simple things that we do in our daily lives, such as washing the dishes, thorough cleaning, cooking and planning. To be honest it is quite fun at times because everything is an adventure, but it could be a nightmare if you do not have the patience to deal with certain behaviors, plus assisting them with the daily things that I have mentioned. For me, as a CILA (Community Integrated Living Arrangement), the rewarding part is having the pleasure of teaching these adults the simple things in life and experiencing their happiness through it, plus monitoring behaviors throughout the day to help them live a much more peaceful life in the community. Orchard Village as an agency is not a bad place to work. And as I share this review I have now hit a year with the agency. Compared to another agency I work for, Orchard Village appreciates the hard-work of their DSP's (Direct Support Professional's) and acknowledges their birthdays & work anniversaries with the agency, as well as DSP Recognition week. Those were just a few things I noticed on their Facebook page prior to accepting a job with, which gave me a lot of comfort joining its staff. Thomas G

Exciting News for the Community - A New Chapter for Beyond Hunger !…read moreFor those wondering about the future of the former grocery space at 6209 W North Avenue, there is a wonderful project on the horizon. This location is officially becoming the new, permanent home for Beyond Hunger, a vital non-profit that serves thousands of our neighbors across the West Side and suburbs. They are transforming this massive space into a state-of-the-art 6,000-square-foot Community Market designed for dignity, allowing clients to shop for their own groceries in a traditional store setting. This move will consolidate their services... including a community kitchen and social service support... into one accessible hub. How you can help right now: Beyond Hunger is in the final stretch of their 'Building for the Future' capital campaign. They have raised 87% of their $3.7 million goal, but community and corporate support is still needed to finalize renovations and establish a permanent building fund. To Donate: Visit GoBeyondHunger.org For Major Gifts/Sponsorships: Reach out to Teri Miller (Director of Development) at 708-613-4200 or Rashida Dairyko (Major Gifts Officer) at 708-840-0288. Let's help them cross the finish line and turn this vacant space into a beacon of hope for the community !

Well - the building is massive - the little section that you can actually browse is tiny - and I mean like TINY. No rare books, genre sections barely a shelf long. I was in and out in 15 mins and even that was me trying. This was about 2 weeks ago. There was a giant section on the west side of the building with stacks of books that was roped off. Is this the inventory? Why can't I see those books too? Did I come during an event prep or is this literally how it is? If I didn't know this was the same organization, I never would have guessed it. I support their mission but what happened? Why is this location so bad? Hoping the Lake St location has some of that LS location magic because I'm so so so disappointed.
