Within the year that I have worked with this agency I have worked with adults with disabilities ranging from schizophrenia, autism, down syndrome, tourette syndrome and bipolar. In this field many of the adults I have worked with struggle with many of the simple things that we do in our daily lives, such as washing the dishes, thorough cleaning, cooking and planning. To be honest it is quite fun at times because everything is an adventure, but it could be a nightmare if you do not have the patience to deal with certain behaviors, plus assisting them with the daily things that I have mentioned. For me, as a CILA (Community Integrated Living Arrangement), the rewarding part is having the pleasure of teaching these adults the simple things in life and experiencing their happiness through it, plus monitoring behaviors throughout the day to help them live a much more peaceful life in the community. Orchard Village as an agency is not a bad place to work. And as I share this review I have now hit a year with the agency. Compared to another agency I work for, Orchard Village appreciates the hard-work of their DSP's (Direct Support Professional's) and acknowledges their birthdays & work anniversaries with the agency, as well as DSP Recognition week. Those were just a few things I noticed on their Facebook page prior to accepting a job with, which gave me a lot of comfort joining its staff. Thomas G

Translated to English, El Paseo means the way. The name speaks to this green spaces role as a path connecting two streets, as well as an approach to life in the city that generally speaking is the way for us all to stay sane and even happy living together in the vast urban jungle of Chicago. You must enter from Ridge street. There is a ring camera at the door. Thanks to weather and traffic we arrived about an hour late. Accidentally walked in on a repast at the church where we were welcomed to fellowship. No one mentioned that they just invited us in, but I figured it out and get us on our way. Once we made it to the right spot we were greeted by Latreice (the Executive Director). We entered the lower level space and you could tell that there was a lot of history to behold. The space holds materials and memorabilia neatly cataloged on shelves. There are also pieces pertinent to different experiences in the Evanston. We all know about the great migration of African Americans to Chicago but many people ended up in Evanston which is something I didn't know. I was enthralled with the memorabilia, newspapers and photos. My favorite thing was reading the funeral home log. It had detailed demographics for the deceased and painted a picture of the life they lived along with their parents. I think everyone who lives in Evanston should visit. I learned a lot. A heartfelt thank you to Ms Stacey (lead archivist) who shared her personal stories about Evanston history. Hopefully the next time we go we'll get to hear more about Ms. Latrice's legacy.
