    Carey's Child Care

    Carey's Child Care

We moved here from California last summer and had a very difficult time finding a space for our 3…read moreyear old son. He went to a church preschool/daycare at first because they were the only ones in town taking kids his age. I came into the church 3 times seeing 20 - 3 year olds with one student supervisor or teacher. I was not impressed and when asked about it the director said they were not required to follow the ratio laws for kids:adults in a room. I highly disagreed, so reluctantly we had to move our son out. We then used a really small childcare and the teacher was wonderful, but the 6 students were all different ages and our son was not enjoying playing with babies or older kids. My son cried every morning he had to go to school. It was a horrible nightmare for his dad and I. We had our oldest son in preschool in California for two years and it was always a constant battle with the directors. The teachers were constantly coming and going. So at this point our preschool experience hasn't been so great for both of our children. Finally!! Carey called and she had an opening. We moved our 3 year old son into her childcare in November 2018. We have never been so impressed. It is very clean. The teachers are amazing and my son has been moved into the 4 year old preschool class during this time. I have lowed all 4 of his teachers. When we come in we are greeted and when we leave there is always a goodbye. It is SIMPLE. I don't have to walk forever to get him to class, the parking is right in front of the door (helps a ton when you have other children in the car or in a carrier). My son loves to go to school and never had a hard time, even the very first day. After 3 months of him crying, this was a HUGE relief! Carey is wonderful, she has great teachers who have been there a while and or have bachelors to master's degrees in education. The tuition is standard and reasonable for a childcare of this size and cleanliness. There is no where else you will get care from 7am - 530pm with all their food included for $28.00 a day. Childcare is a hard bill to swallow for working parents, but $28.00 a day to know that you child is happy, fed, learning, and safe is WELL WORTH IT and way cheap. That's only $2.67 an hour! My child never comes home covered in food, crafts or has a gross face or nose. He is always very clean. This place is great and I would recommend getting on the waiting list as soon as you know you want to put your child in care or pregnant!

I am a nine year member of YMCA affiliates and have been a member at LaPorte YMCA for about 1 1/2…read moreyears. I was told by each of the other affiliates and the LaPorte facility when I joined that I can use "Any" YMCA facility in the U.S. About six months ago, a person named Kori or Cory Mobley and who identified herself as the manager told me that she has information from the Valpo YMCA that I have been visiting the Valpo location more than the LaPorte location. I told her I didn't know that was a problem and that it is my understanding that I can use any YMCA facility. She told me that I must use the LaPorte facility more than any other facility. News to me! So, for a while I dropped by the LaPorte facility to scan my card, use the restroom or shower, use the sauna and swimming pool and of course, work out. About a month later Ms. Mobley notified me that she again has information from Valpo YMCA that I have been visiting their facility more than the LaPorte facility and that she has been deleting my card scan each time I visit the LaPorte facility. I was visiting the Valpo facility for the steam room because I was unable to work out for several months due to total shoulder replacement surgery and also so that my son and his friends can use their family pool with the slide. After this latest confrontation with Ms. Mobley and after my initial shoulder rehab was over I began using the LaPorte YMCA facility to work out about three times per week and spend anywhere from thirty minutes to two hours in the facility. This week, March 24, I was again confronted by Ms. Mobley who informed me that she again has info. from Valpo YMCA that I have been visiting that facility more than LaPorte. This time it is simply not true and I told Ms. Mobley that I have only visited the Valpo facility two or three times in the past four or five weeks and I have been visiting the LaPorte facility two to four times per week and that her record of my "card scans" will show that. She said, "well, I've been deleting your scans". I ask her why she would do that and she said it was because I'm not spending enough time in the LaPorte facility. Ms. Mobley told me that she purposefully has cancelled my visits to LaPorte to cause the "Valpo Y" location to not let me use their facility anymore. I asked her if she had a personal problem with me and she, of course, said no. I then asked to speak with her boss. Enter Laurie G. Halaska who identified herself as the CEO and I informed her that Ms. Mobley was deleting my card scans and that is why their records show that I am visiting the Valpo YMCA more than Laporte and that she needs to stop deleting my card scans. Ms. Halaska told me that my visits have not been "lengthy enough" and that is why Ms. Mobley is deleting my card scans. I told her that if I spend 10 minutes working out or three hours working out, that's my business. If I want to come in a shoot hoops for fifteen minutes I will. If I want to come in and take a shower I can do so. I did concede that on three or four occasions I have popped in to use the restroom because I was in the neighborhood and had to go. So what! I'm a member. Ms. Halaska then told me that "it is her business and that members must use the facility the way that she and the YMCA feel the facilities should be utilized". My jaw dropped. Does she think she's Hitler? I REPEATED that I have visited the LaPorte location two to four times per week and spend from 45 minutes to two hours there. She then basically called me a liar by saying "we have it on video". I said "show me the video of the past two months, let's sit down together and watch the video, I'd love to see it". Her reply, "The video is privileged information and we don't have to share it". So, she just called me a liar and when called out on it, she refused. Any video of me using the facility over the past 4 to 8 weeks will show me using the facility from 45 minutes to 2 hours. Pretty darn angry at this point, I said to her "don't ever call me a liar again". She replied, "I can cancel your membership". Being extremely upset now, I told her to "and never threaten me with membership cancelation". I proceeded to the locker room and then got a 40 minute workout. Her accusations of me being a liar were made in front of other staff, as well as, other members, two of whom asked me about it in the locker room and were appalled by the way I was being treated. I owned a Health Club myself for years. I would never treat my members like this. They should be ashamed of themselves and they owe me a huge apology.
