While traveling south on Hwy 6 from Espanola, you'll eventually encounter a swing bridge standing between you and the journey onto Manitoulin Island. This centre pivoting swing bridge, which opened in 1913, remains the only one of its kind in the world that is operational. Every 15 minutes at the top of the hour, the bridge swings to allow marine traffic below to pass on either side of the bridge while all vehicle road traffic above wait behind red traffic lights.
