When we wondered why, after 20 mins., our COLD snacks haven't come out yet, we were told that they lost our ticket! Another 10 mins. went by before they brought out our drinks and our food. We were even with our friend who's a native, so it wasn't because the staff was snubbing us as tourists... Go ahead and try it if you have lots of time and are patient; otherwise, skip it and go down the street to Palomares instead.

The inside is small and narrow, but has plenty of tables in the plaza outside. I opted for a seat at the bar. The bartender/manager(?) was VERY friendly and patient with my lack of Spanish. Eventually I was able to communicate to him to just order whatever 4 tapas he thought were the best and any beer that wasn't an IPA. Ended up with the patatas allioli dall negre, croquettes iberic, pop a la gallega, and fruita patata brie. All of the dishes I enjoyed, but my favorites were the Patatas bravas and pop a la gallega. Patatas were cooked perfect, the allioli was rich and flavorful, a nice variation of the patatas bravas. The pop a la gallega was incredible!! In America, I usually get octopus in chirashi bowls at sushi restaurants, and they've always been chewy, rubbery filler items. Here, the octopus was very tender, the whole dish was an absolute incredible balance of flavors and textures. If I came back to Barcelona again I would definitely try and come out to Premià de Mar just to visit this restaurant again! I regret not being able to find time to come back a second time during my trip.

Al-Faru is a notch above many in the area, with a very distinctive vibe; laid back hippy but friendly staff, serving top-notch and quite pricey tapas, served with a flourish. The provenance of all the ingredients is included on the menu, so you know exactly where your seafood, air-dried ham, cheeses and veg are sourced. The main bar has tables on traditional wood decking with a bamboo roof and drop-down curtains for shade and/or protection from sea breezes, but at one end there's a teepee, for those who want the whole 1960s experience, sitting in a sea breeze, listening to an eclectic mix of music, with the crash of the waves in the distance. The only downer is that service can be a bit haphazard (they got our orders cheerfully muddled up on a few occasions, but were so infectiously laid back about it, it was hard to get flustered).
