Tons of supplies at reasonable prices! Some of their frozen foods are a good buy as well. They have items you ain't gonna find at a Walmart.

LOVE Lit! I organize a lot of neighborhood events on a budget, and always head to Lit before anywhere else. Their selection of paper products and condiments is excellent and their prices cannot be beat! They also have great cookware items that are unusual and hard to find. This place is awesome. I hope nobody finds it besides me. If people realized what a treasure this place was, you wouldn't be able to get in. I took up baking during Covid. Lit I had almost everything I need and for a fraction of the price anywhere else. The staff is friendly and helpful, and I have probably saved a couple of hundred dollars they're shopping as a home cook just in the last six months. read more

OK, I have to give them props considering I checked-in with the comment, "If I go missing check here first"...or something like that. I had heard all the wonderful things about this place so when I pulled up, I thought, "Am I in the right place?" Because not only is it on Summer, but they had a lot of loiterers in the parking lot...and I didn't exactly feel safe even though it was 2:00 in the afternoon. But as soon as I walked in, I was blown away not only by the selection but the incredibly kind and helpful staff. I literally had two people follow me around with a giant cart and helped me with my shopping. And the prices?! WOWZA! Phenomenal! I'm never going any other place for parties...so with that being said, maybe the low rent keeps the prices low cost so I should stop complaining? read more

Remember the first time you saw a teacher outside of school as a kid, and how weird and disconcerting it was to see them outside of their normal environment? That's kind of what's it's like to walk into Lit Restaurant Supply on Union Ave. Those red pizza delivery bags that you usually only see at your front door? They're shrink wrapped in plastic and stacked on a shelf. Those small brown bowls that all Mexican restaurants use for salsa? They're called "monkeys" and stacked fifteen high. The same goes for high chairs, red plastic tumblers, napkin holders and pitchers. Lit is a kitchen wonderland. It's two giant rooms filled with chafing dishes, deep fryers, chairs, bottle openers, giant bottles of spices, and ice sculpture molds. They've also got food. You can pick up a six pound can of tomatoes, a massive bag of raw pasta and those square pizzas that I thought were only available in school cafeterias. Lit has been open downtown for 60 years. While the store is geared towards restaurant owners, it's open to the public and there's no minimum purchase. It's a great place to stock up on party supplies - they've got disposable shot glasses, paper plates and napkins. (It's worth mentioning that there's a second store, Lit Junior, on Summer Ave. that's carries more food and is geared more towards the non-commercial shopper.) When I stopped in today, I picked up a glass bottle with a pour spout (perfect for olive oil), a wall-mounted bottle opener, a bag of tootsie rolls, and a glass mug shaped like a boot. read more

This store is amazing. Their baking/cake pans and cookie sheets are phenomenal. And the prices are bar-none!

A restaurant supply store near me???? Woo Hoo!! Lit Jr. is a smaller version of it's big brother Lit on Union. They have a little bit of everything! From plastic containers for food storage to baking equipment (sheets, spreaders, cake plates) to those plastic buffet pieces, to frozen food, to miscellaneous gadgetry, this Lit rocks! I've purchased half sheet pans, cookie scoops (ice cream scoops but smaller) storage bins for my new bread baking phase, cups, etc. They have a selection of frozen food if you are feeding a crowd (veggies, fish, meats, even some deserts). I find the prices are reasonable and the employees are helpful! This Lit is generally open from 9-6 Mon-Sat, noon-6 on Sundays so I can make it to this location a lot more easily than the big Lit on Union. If you know of a "foodie" who needs presents, I'd highly recommend Lit Jr.! read more

Let me sing the praises of Lit! I found this place due to fellow Yelpers. I had seen it a thousand times going up and down Summer and it never occurred to me that there was a wonderland hidden inside. I found stuff for my kitchen that I had looked for online and hemmed and hawed over buying it because of the price. Well, at Lit, the prices were PHENOMENAL. Since I'm redoing my kitchen in a sort of retro diner theme, I found diner mugs for a fraction of the price they are on Amazon. Nice, sturdy mugs in that lovely creme color that evokes dreams of sitting in a roadside diner and sipping a cup of coffee while Johnny Cash plays on the jukebox. As I'm also a baker, I found all sorts of things I use for a fraction of the price I usually spend at Michaels or online. Pastry bags at 100 for $12. Spatulas of all sorts for less than $3. We're talking the kind that you usually pay a premium for because they have "Wilton" emblazoned on the side. I'm just in love with this place. Already looking forward to my next visit. Just a note: If you go during the summer, it will be a little hot inside. Bring (or buy) a bottle of water. read more

My boyfriend and I have a running joke that this is one of the best stores in Memphis...and it's not really a joke. You can find almost any kitchen or food/catering-related item here, and I mean anything. From the basic, to the obscure, to the just plain didn't know it existed, you can find it at Lit for a reasonable price. We've bought a whisk, tongs, paper plates, plastic cups, spices, coleslaw mix, an ice bucket (with matching scoop, no less), and even a pair of massive heat-proof BBQ gloves here. Every weekend this month while prepping for Thanksgiving, we've said "Gee, we really need a fill-in-the-blank," and we've found it all at Lit. This is a great place to find all kinds of cooking supplies as well as grocery items. Prices are great as well. I enjoy just browsing the store from time to time. People are friendly and helpful. read more
