As a gingerbread man connoisseur, this bakery needs to step up its game. This is a firm but fair…read morerating on the gingerbread man. The chocolate buttons are traditional and worked well. But when you're looking forward to the chocolate button it means you aren't getting what you need from the ginger head, ginger arms or ginger legs. The gingerbread man was lacking in moisture and was a little 'unleavened'. It had a reasonable amount of ginger twang which was its saving grace, but overall too flat, too crisp and too small at a $2.70 price point. Finally a little more energy from the staff. When you buy a gingerbread man you are excited, probably been thinking about it all day. When you walk into the bakery you want to see Father Christmas smiling at you while he gives you the present. Ideally a little skip on the way to the gingerbread man tray. The mopey staff were starting to dampen my mood, and a few years ago that would have brought me down. But not today. "Keep the change" I grabbed the white paper bag with the little smiling man inside and dashed out the door. I reach in it's go time and thankfully my hands are clean. I knew by the time I finished the head, that the shiny new bike I wanted for Xmas, turned out to be a Kmart scooter. I wonder what the jam donuts are like.

In addition, they have a sit down restaurant. I saw a porchetta on a rotisserie above an open fire in the back. The staff is super nice, and their baristas make a mean flat white or long black. In addition to the tart, we had a beef pie and bacon quiche. I forgot the individual cost of each item. However, the total was $50 AUD inc the coffees. The tart was massive, and it tasted so good. The custard was nice & creamy and that crust. Likewise, the quiche and pie had nice crusts, and were full of fillings. No lack of meat here. Regarding the ambiance, its open air and you can order casual or sit down. There were a lot of people mid-morning on a Sun. TBD was a very pleasant way to have a first meal of the day.
