We had our first appointment with Lisa Musgrave DDS this morning, and I wanted to share our experience honestly.
My son's appointment was scheduled for 8:00 a.m. We live about 40 minutes away, so we took him out of school and made the drive. My husband had also completed all the required electronic paperwork the night before, and the portal indicated everything was done.
At around 7:50 a.m., as I was pulling into the parking lot, my husband got a call from the office letting him know the appointment was canceled -- the doctor had been double-booked and was in surgery. I understand surgical schedules can change unexpectedly, but finding out roughly 10 minutes before an 8:00 a.m. appointment, after we'd already made the trip and pulled him out of school, was hard.
Since we were already there, I went inside, and the office kindly agreed to go ahead with his X-ray even though we wouldn't be able to see the doctor. I'd explained that one of the main reasons we were there was because my son has significant difficulty breathing through his nose -- this was also noted in his intake form. What concerned me most was that afterward, my son told me he'd been positioned so he couldn't breathe through his mouth for part of the X-ray, and that no one had checked with him beforehand about whether he'd be able to breathe through his nose during that step. He said he was able to hold his breath and got through it fine, but hearing that afterward was unsettling, especially given why we were there in the first place.
We also learned at check-in that, despite what the online system showed the night before, his paperwork hadn't actually gone through, so we had to complete it again in the waiting room.
We ultimately left without meeting Dr. Musgrave, without the consultation we'd scheduled, and without a clear explanation of the X-ray results or next steps for his breathing issue -- and we were asked to pay approximately $300 for the visit.
I want to be fair: this is only a review of our first experience, and I can't speak to Dr. Musgrave's actual care or expertise since we never had the chance to meet with her. I understand double-bookings and surgical emergencies happen. But combined with the paperwork issue, the breathing/X-ray concern, and the lack of any consultation to go along with the $300 charge, it made for a disappointing first impression. read more
