The wines and port are overwhelmingly Spanish and Portuguese, as befits the neighborhood. The guys who run the place know their products well and are great at picking out exactly what you need. This is the source of the 5-star rating. I can't browse in there for more than a minute or so without one of the proprietors coming over to ask me what I want. I tell him, "I'm looking for a late-bottled vintage port around $40," and he will then select a bottle or two, ask me how many cases (har har), and ring me up. I don't think I've spent more than 8 minutes in the store, ever. And every selection they've made has been spot-on. If you're in the market for good port, don't be afraid to get on the PATH and come out to Oporto... it's only about 8 blocks from the station, and you'll get to experience the really nice part of Newark... the Ironbound. The restaurants around Oporto just smell amazing, and you'll want to come back here for the food after you buy all your good ports.

I usually keep at least 2 different beers and 2 wines in the fridge at my house. I am always expecting company =) If I go to Butler's it is probably because I am already beered and just want to keep the night going. I can recommend Butler's for had liquors though. The Absolute, Goose, JD, SoCo are always stocked. Don't expect to go and get some swanky gin or some really hard to find whiskey. But if you are in a pinch and have last minute guests coming over than I am sure you can get a party's worth. I personally prefer to go to the Liquor Gallery or Garcia's due to Butler's overall lack of selection. Butler's is on Elmora right next to the 711 and right across the street from Destino's lounge. There is NO parking lot, just the street which is horrible. If you can be real quick just park in the 711 lot. You have up to half hour before you get towed. Don't eff around either, they will have you towed with the quickness!! They accept major cards. They of course sell tobacco products and bogies are a bit cheaper here than at 711.

They have a large selection of beers. Local crafts, domestic, imports and IPAs. My preference has always run towards Hefeweizen or an unfiltered wheat beer. I found a nice one named Pyramid which is made in Seattle, Berkeley or Portland, Oregon. My wife went with a cider, the Angry Orchards Apple Ginger. It is a fully stocked liquor store so if you are in the mood for something harder or a wine I believe they probably have it. It is located in the same shopping center as Rite-Aid and Auto Zone so you can get several things done at once. Remember to always drink responsibly . :)

As I found it l, I looked up and lo and behold in the corner stood zip liquors and wines unassumingly. This is when I remembered I needed more ingredients for coquito and gifts for my das & brother. This tiny place packs in quite a bit of variety and really cool gift sets. The staff is friendly, so give them a try, they come through in the clutch.
