Came in for the first time and let me tell ya, I think we found our new go-to purveyor of spirits!!…read more The store is more spacious and has a better selection than the stores to which I've been in Fieldsboro and Bordentown. More importantly, the prices were MUCH lower. For example, a bottle of Bogle essential red blend (yes, I drink blends) was $9.09 here, where at places 3 miles down the road it'll run $12-14. Another example, we tried a bottle from Josh cellars, which used to be a good value but has become overpriced and overhyped. Some fancy bourbon barrel aged one that other stores have for $22 - it ran 17.99 here. The icing on the cake was the clerk kindly assisted in bringing the box out to our car! Haven't had service like that since I lived in the south. There's a decent looking spirits and beer selection as well, although I didn't really make note of the prices in those departments tonight. Also of note, they do have chilled wines available (why wait?) and ice if you need it. Parking space is plenty and the store wasn't mobbed at 5 pm on a Saturday but a steady flow. It's on 206 south near the bordentown shoprite, so you'll have to navigate a famous jersey jug handle coming from the south. We will be back!

Just walked out of canal's and will gladly never return!…read more My grandmother needed a wine opener and I ran to Joe Canal's for her. I asked the cashier if the store had any wine openers. The young lady grabbed a wine opener from a box and proceeded to ring up the opener. She then asked her co-worker if she knew how to enter the code for the opener bc she has difficulty scanning the item. The co-worker advised the cashier to ask a guy who was walking towards the front of the store. The cashier explained that she needed to ring up the opener. The guy asked her where she got the opener from?! The cashier pointed to a box of openers behind her. The guy then looked at me and said, "we don't have any wine openers for sale." I stood there for a good minute in disbelief as I saw an entire box of openers behind the cashier who tried to sell me one. Don't what nonsense is going on at this store. I do know I won't return to spend my money there.

Hard to tell exactly when it opened, as their website offers scant information, but they first started posting on Facebook in 2011 if that is anything to go by. They don't have a large footprint in the NJ brewing scene as they don't distribute to any liquor stores or bars/restaurants (they don't even offer beers in cans to go), and they don't do any big events other than the typical karaoke or trivia nights. What they do offer is a nice place to hang out in an old historic building right on the Main Street in the downtown area, and a solid lineup of beers. One thing that makes them stand out is a great selection of beers on nitro. From my experience with NJ breweries, you're lucky to find a single beer on nitro. At Village Idiot there are seven of them, most of them dessert stouts like a cookie butter white stout and a salted caramel milk stout. All that we tried were delicious and not crazy high in ABV like other dessert stouts. Flights are only $10 which is pretty cheap compared to other NJ breweries. Of note is that as of November 2025 they no longer allow outside drinks including water bottles like Nalgenes and Stanley Cups. Too many idiots sneaking in alcohol, according to their social media. Overall it has a bit more of a dive bar vibe only frequented by locals rather than a traditional NJ brewery, but the beer is definitely good enough, and the surrounding Main Street charming and quaint enough that I would definitely return.

It's an odd configuration, the store is split in half, one side being beer and wine, the other being a serving bar and spirits wall. A quick look at beers suggested my attention should focus elsewhere, but in a pinch I guess I could find something. Better selection in wines with a few nice premium choices. Of more interest were a few Greek wines of lesser cost. If I lived very close by I'd probably use this store in a pinch or if I had to walk there. But a nice addition to this shopping center.

It provides shade while still letting in all the fresh air, vineyard views, and that peaceful nature vibe. We were genuinely in awe of how beautiful it is, and it made sipping wine with Brie even more relaxing. Leashed and friendly pups are welcome outside, and Brie loved lounging while we enjoyed our tasting. Angela, our server, was wonderful: we had such a great time chatting with her about their many wine varieties. You are welcome to explore the property, but pups should stay out of the vine rows to protect the grapes. This spot is calm, scenic, and perfect for a vineyard day with your dog, definitely one to add to your weekend list.
