Nice 16th-century country pub, formerly three cottages now joined up. There are several rooms: a large main bar, a games room, a restaurant and seating outside in front. It's got a good range of real ales available, including some guest beers that were new to me.
They serve food at lunchtimes and evenings. Meals are typical.
There are some nice walks to be had from this pub: use the large car park in back and do loops of varying sizes - I've done a 1-hr loop, and a 3-hr loop along the Chiltern ridgeway from here. There's also an old steam train that runs nearby: you can hear it approach if you're sitting outside.
Very friendly staff. read more
