The tour guides were friendly and knew all the details and explained the story the correct way and very entertaining. After we left we had to google the history itself to learn more. This is such a hidden gem! Tip: To save some money buy the combo tours which include Belvedere mansion and the dowling house. Also bring cash for the tips at the end of the tour!

The items inside aren't original to the house, but everything together is quite a sizable collection of antiques with the house being part of the eclectic assortment. Our tour took just over an hour. We got the first tour of the day. Our tour guide clearly showed a passion for her work.

All the art sculptures were created by John Martinson. His creativity for art will blow your mind. He came out and spoke about his masterpieces and how he created a few of the artwork. I was impressed with all his wonderful work. Just to experience someone with an imaginary mind who's turns metal it into something wonderful. There were so many unique and fun sculptures. My favorites were the Climbing the Ladder to Success, You're So Vane, Eyeful Tour and a few others. Very brilliant and crafty. There is a donation box next to the tree to help support the cause.

Matthew, the Innkeeper, seems to have thought of everything when it comes to comfort and relaxation. Our brunch each morning was healthy, fresh, and gourmet prepared. There was complimentary wine and finger foods in the downstairs shared sitting area each late afternoon and evening. Matthew was always attentive, warm, and welcoming with any requests. We loved that we were steps away from the main shopping street of the town, and walking distance from historical sites to tour and the charming businesses of the town. We plan on returning to The Jail Hill Inn and becoming "repeat offenders" as we loved staying in our room so much this past weekend we still have so much of Galena to see.

The best thing is Murphy's is well-staffed with friendly and knowledgeable people who can actually answer your questions, unlike many of the big box store garden centers. In you're a basil fan, they have the biggest and best specimens for future pesto-making activities and caprese salad fantasies. I appreciate the advice I got here on various tomato plant options, too. In summary, great location, good value with quality products and helpful staff.

Deciding to do a last minute trip to Galena, my boyfriend discovered Abbey's. considering we were…read morebooking the room say day, they were very nice. we arrived around 10:30 pm, and were greeted promptly by kat. she showed us around and then took us to our room. told us breakfast was at 9, and showed us how to get back in when we would leave. we were then introduced to her husband, and we set off into the night for some fun. the room itself was nice in a quaint way. there was a jacuzzi tub in the corner, a 4 post bed, fireplace, desk, and tv. the bathroom was a bit small, and the water-pressure a bit lacking, but it was cute place. probably the biggest downside for us was how loud the bed was! you would sit down and it would creak like it was going to break. i was definitely woken up a few times by my boyfriend rolling over in the middle of the night. breakfast itself was good. there were a few things we didn't care for on the menu, but nothing to complain about overall. the barely saw the owners, which works well for me. i don't want to feel like i'm at my parents house and be checked in on all the time. nice place to stay. i would recommend coming here if you stay in galena. the gardens here a gorgeous and the view is wonderful.

Both last year and this…read moreyear the owner and workers have been standing at the register openly saying rude and disrespectful things about patrons of the store. Last year, my mother in law asked to see a vase and was told she really couldn't afford it anyway so they werent going to bring it down. I was appalled. This store should be avoided at ALL cost.
