This garden tour was very pretty, although not at all what I was expecting. Landscaped out of a hillside in Galena, the garden is on private property and the tour is given by an 85 year old gentleman who apparently works on the garden with only a couple of other people to help him. The garden can be quite difficult to find, you have to drive down to a cul de sac and then take a private driveway down from there. There is a sign posted, but when we went this morning it was in the shade and we didn't see it. We called from the car, and when I asked for clarification (my mother had called before for directions), the gentleman said, "I already told you three times", which I thought was uncalled for. The tour is about an hour long, and while not physically difficult, I wouldn't recommend for people of limited mobility, because of the amount of stair climbing, on stairs that have been cut out of the surrounding stone and can be irregular and muddy. The gentleman himself gets around with a cane, and occasionally points out of path down stairs that he suggests we take, while himself remaining at the top of the stairs. He has a dry sense of humor, at one point he discussed one area where they have weddings and said that he sells tickets "on the sixth Friday of every month". I wouldn't go back here, having visited once, but I would recommend to garden lovers who happen to visit Galena. read more
