He screamed and yelled at her and my 60 year old mother was forced to walk home. Why I have dropped my rating.... Several weeks back I opted to take take a taxi so I could enjoy privacy on my way to my destination. A few minutes of solitude where I could sort my paperwork or send a few texts to fellow co-workers or clients. BUT NO!!!! I find that my FULL FARE taxi ride is not MY taxi ride at all. We stop to pick up not one, but two more riders along the way before dropping me off at my destination. If I wanted to be crammed like a sardine next to people I don't know, I'd take a bus. I also feel ripped off having to pay a full fare for a SHARED ride. Next time it's either UBER or LYFT for me because at least I can decide if I want to share my ride, and if I do, I will get a reduced rate for doing so. Do yourself a favor and use other services. I have used Lindy's in the past with decent results. However I called yesterday and got a recording asking what town I was in and what town I was going to. The expectation was I would be getting a callback since "they were busy helping other customers". I called 2X and got no response. I was frantic since I needed to get to the doctor. The word has not ben invented to describe how horrible this company is. I am a disabled person who was supposed to be picked up at 8pm and when I called to see why my cab was late, the girl on the phone was mean and nasty and my cab never came. I was stranded for 4 hours and I asked someone to call me an Uber. I didn't get home until 1 am and had to pay with my disability money, which isn't much. I contacted Lindy's taxi as I needed a local ride. The dispatcher was rude and hung up on me. I called back and got the same woman who called me "honey". I asked how long it would take for the taxi to come and she replied "soon". She couldn't bother to tell me if it would be 15 minutes or half an hour. Soon is not really an acceptable answer. I was standing outdoors in freezing temperatures waiting for this taxi to come. While on the phone with this dispatcher, she changed the price of the ride from nine to $15. I was picked up by a very nice gentleman who took me for my ride. He couldn't control the price but then again he couldn't of been kinder. I'm not sure how I was going to get charged $50 to go 17 mins from West Babylon to Levittown. I called a different company and they said $20. After that my plans were cancelled, so I went the next day and took uber. It cost me $10. YES, $10. !!!!!!!!! Anyway, I think it's a shame that they're doing that to the locals. read more

Had one hour to make a train after a local wedding in east Islip, expecting to make a connection in Babylon. I left my phone number to be called at the door or otherwise located on a residential street. Dispatcher said no more than a 10 minute wait. I called after 15 minutes, was brusquely told "she's on her way" and hung up on. Time passes and I call again with 5 minutes to spare on having any hope on making my train connection, I was informed that the driver has picked up 5 people (!) since I called (each or in total?). My train was completely missed. Eventually called another cab company to satisfy my needs. Lindy's Taxi is one of the worst businesses I've ever encountered. I've unfortunately required their services on a few occasions to drive me the 5 minutes to or from Babylon Station. Every single time I call them, I dread the interaction. The phone seems to always be answered by the same guy no matter when I call. He's curt and rude and seems completely bothered by the fact that I called. Somehow, the estimated time is always 10-15 minutes. He does not take a phone number or say thanks/bye. He just simply hangs up and you have no idea if he heard you correctly or if he's really going to send a taxi. The taxi that eventually pulls up is always old, uncomfortable, and smelling of cigarette smoke. I've had taxis with back seats kept together by black tape. I've had taxis without a side mirror. Every single taxi creaks and rattles. And the drivers are just as rude as the dispatcher. Is it just the Long Island attitude or do they just hire people who do not care? My most recent interaction was an early morning pick-up to Babylon Station to catch a flight at JFK. I was quoted the usual "10-15 minutes", so I went outside at the 10 minute mark. Nobody showed up and I called 5 minutes later. I was then told the taxi had shown up and nobody was outside, so he left. If the taxi did actually drop by, it was much earlier than expected and he did nothing to try to find me. Perhaps the dispatcher could take down a phone number and the driver could have called me to let me know he was outside? I had to ask the dispatcher to send the taxi back. When the driver finally pulled up, he saw my suitcase, asked if I was going to JFK, and immediately started berating me. "The locals and regulars know how we work and don't waste our time". He essentially yelled at me and complained about the second trip the entire ride to the train station. At some point, he pointed to a black SUV parked at 7-11 and said, "look, that's an Uber. Maybe you should have just had him take you." Thanks for the tip, Mr. taxi driver! I don't know if he was more bothered about making the second trip or about the fact that I'm not a native Long Islander. Unfortunately, I was not surprised at all and this seemed exactly the sort of service I'd expect from Lindy's. They also have no meter. The price seems to be completely dictated by the dispatcher and, somehow, no two trips ever cost the same even from the same starting and ending location. You also have no idea how much they'll charge you until the ride is over. The driver radios the dispatcher and the rude guy rattles off a price. Worse, if you get a taxi from the train station, they often put multiple people in the same taxi. But they charge every single person a full fare. Where else would this be acceptable? After a long flight and train ride, the last thing I want is to be shoved into the back of an uncomfortable taxi with two strangers and have them all know where I live. They don't ask if it's okay to take a second or third person, they just do it. The drivers see this as completely normal practice. It seems they have a monopoly on taxi service in Suffolk and they know this, so they have absolutely no interest in providing a decent experience. They really just do not care. I normally use Uber when I can, but service during early morning is difficult on Long Island, so I'm forced to call Lindy's Taxi. Lindy's Taxi takes everything that is wrong with the taxi industry and makes it even worse. Uber or a competing taxi service will eventually be the end of them. read more

Once in a while I use a taxi. Had used another company but saw my neighbor using Lindy's and the cabs were immaculate as opposed to really run down. Had a cab come yst a/m for a Dr. appt. They taxi came quickly but the driver was the nicest person you'd ever meet. My Dr's office wasn't open yet and he made sure I was OK before he left. Nice, incase there was a problem and I needed to go back home. I'm writing because no one writes unless angry. This man was so nice I hoped his boss would see this and give him credit. Worst service ever. We called at 5:45pm didn't get picked up til 6:30. When they said 20 min. Then we used them again to go back home. Bad idea. The guy was rude, gave us an attitude the minute we stepped into the car. He said him and other people at the bar which we weren't sitting near, we were in the back of the restaurant we're yelling for the cab. So we walk out and he's like I don't know how you guys didn't hear me. First off you said 10-15 min it was only 5 min so we finished our drinks and we're getting up from our table when we heard all the commotion. I've taken this service many times, until I downloaded Uber. The dispatcher is rude, a few of the drivers are intimidating, the cars smell, one of the drivers smoked while I was in the car. I've had another driver go on a sexist anti-Hilary rant during election season. (A political discussion should never be a something a cab driver brings up, unprofessional and unnecessary.) Late night, they always pack the car with extra drunk people going in the same direction which has led to wildly uncomfortable rides with intimidating men, with no driver intervention for borderline harassment in the backseat. Essentially a woman's worst nightmare in a cab company. Overall, rude, unprofessional, also they're weird and pushy when you come down the stairs of the train station. read more

I never write reviews. But this company, (the one serving the Amityville area, at least) is the WORST. They are consistently late, even when called well in advance. No one seems to care if you have an appointment to make, or a train to catch. Sometimes they've just completely no-showed, but they have a monopoly on the area. This taxi service is mentally ill. I have never been so disappointed in a taxi company. I use them from time to time, and each time it is nothing short of a disappointment. If you have to get anywhere at least a half hour late, then this is the taxi service for you. The car never came and he subsequently missed 3 trains in a row. Do not use this company if you need a ride.
