I remember in third grade being diagnosed with dyslexia and A.D.D. My parents tried everything they could to find programs or tutors that could help me improve. I had a reading tutor throughout elementary school at school, had morning and evening tutoring sessions for my reading and math, they even tried summer school through the school district, but I started to fall farther behind when it came to meeting grade-level reading. My test scores were way bellow the state standards, which did me no justice because I knew everything, I just got all my numbers and words mixed up while taking the test. The low scores suggested that I be moved to the severe special education class. But the thing was when my parents heard about Lindamood-Bell they enrolled me in the summer program and my reading, comprehension, spelling and some math started to show massive progress compared to before. I was not only able to read at a 5th-grade level at the time but at the 6th-grade level too. They were amazing when I got frustrated or antsy and when it came to communicating with my parents. My parents were able to help me with spelling and memorizing vocabulary. For spelling, I was taught to write the word in the air while saying it out loud. For math, it was just repetition for me. They helped me a lot with telling time, counting money and breaking down word problems in a way I could understand them. If it weren't for Lindamood-Bell and my parents, I wouldn't have made it to where I am now. Graduating with an AA in General Studies: Emphasis in Social Behavioral Sciences and finishing my second AA in Early Childhood Intervention and Inclusion. I still have my struggles, but I'm able to figure them out without feeling so frustrated all the time. So Thank you Lindamood-Bell for all the hard work you put in to help me succeed and for others over the years. read more
