The tea set from Berghof, The Winter's Collection, Mehan's personal items, The JFK refused/canceled check, the photos in Dealy Square. I could go on forever.... the complaints here seem foolish. It would be like going to the Smithsonian seeing all the items on display there and complaining that you missed Madonna's famous bra.

The building's thoughtful design really sets the tone for a meaningful visit. They've done an outstanding job sharing the layered stories of the Battle of Gettysburg--why it happened, how it unfolded, and its lasting impact on our nation. Their storytelling truly honors the sacrifices made, weaving history into every exhibit. Staff were exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable. The interactive displays were a highlight--my kids especially loved the miniature cannon where they could "pull the trigger," and the realistic cannon shells you could actually lift to feel their weight. Super engaging! And please, Don't skip the Cyclorama. This massive 360° painting weighs a staggering 8 tons--4 tons of canvas and 4 tons of paint--and it's presented so vividly you feel like you're standing there in the middle of the battlefield. I wish we had booked a longer tour! Our guide, Jim, was excellent. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable. He was able to pull our individual interests in making the tour more personal. The museum was good. It wasn't overly big, but I would say give yourself an hour to tour it. Honestly, any bigger and I would have succumbed to information overload. The gift shop was nice. There was a little bit of everything for everybody. They had a really good selection of books. Oh, and while we were there, there were re-enactors on the front lawn. All in all our visit made for a great day.

Having had our share of Civil War history for two straight days, we chose to start with the lower level WW1 & WW2 exhibits. I was absolutely blown away by the volume of incredible artifacts the museum possesses! MacAuthur's pipes & aviators. Jimmy Stewart's uniform. World War 1 trench art made form spent artillery casings. A real "blue max", the exhibit is incredibly rich! The grandfather of the young man operating the museum these days collected as many WW2 artifacts as he could while growing up during/after the war, eventually serving in Korea himself, and opening this museum about 1963. After spending about 45-minutes on the lower level, we took in the Civil War exhibit on the top level. I was struck most by collection of Civil War reunion ribbons from the late 19th century. I hadn't seen these artifacts before. I would say this is a "must visit" destination for any serious military history buff. You will be impressed. Not your standard government-operated museum, but has an incredible and unique collection.

The dad went to fight and left mom and daughters to care for the house. Our guide not only told the story of the family but what was going on in Gettysburg during the 3 day battle. A sad story of how a family pays a price during war. Worth a visit.

Beneath the cupola were three floors of top-tier exhibits that in-depth to the battle, aftermath and overall story of the war .. .. Being that last visitor of the day, had a lovely banter about civil war strategy with the staff and might have kept them there past closing .. .. THANKS GUYS!!

Our family of 21 had a wonderful 45-minute guided tour of the Jennie Wade House. Normally, they…read morelimit groups to 15 people, but since we were one big family with a few little kids, they kindly made an exception so we could stay together. We had a 3pm tour booked but arrived early around 2:45pm and were able to start just 6 minutes ahead of schedule, which was a nice surprise. The tour took us through all three stories of the duplex home, which stood right in the heart of the Gettysburg battle. We even got to inspect several bullet holes up close, offering a tangible glimpse into what life must have been like during the 1860s. Our guide was fantastic--engaging and full of interesting stories about Jennie Wade, her family, and the era. A very educational and enjoyable experience overall!
