From 3 July 2025 until his interment on 16 July 2025, I was in close contact with members of the Thomas Geisel Funeral Home staff. These interactions included Mr. Thomas "Tommy" Geisel, himself. There were multiple things that made this burial rather complex. Mr. Hunter Martin, one of several funeral directors at the Chambersburg location, took the lead and helped to make the entire coordination process seamless. This ranged from contact with the funeral home in the Chicago area, to permitting for interstate travel, to flying my uncle to BWI and his transportation to Chambersburg. There were COUNTLESS other things that this owner and his staff did on behalf of our family. I can't stress enough about the compassion and truly caring nature of all of the individuals that we came in contact with during this trying time. The entire staff exceeded our expectations: The gentlemen who came out to the house to retrieve Dad's body the night he passed were respectful and professional. Chad was simply amazing and walked us through every step of the funeral planning process. He was able to kindly and professionally answer every question we asked him. No request we made of him was denied. Tommy phoned my mother from vacation the morning after my dad passed to offer his condolences and even offered to return from his vacation early so that he could be there for the family during Dad's service. That deeply touched our family. Sharon F. and the front office staff were extremely helpful with the life insurance paperwork which helped to ease our stress during the week of the funeral. No detail was left untouched by the Geisel staff. We brought in boxes of pictures and mementos the day before the viewing and the staff tastefully arranged all the pictures, mementos, and flowers around the two rooms. It was perfect. At this point I should also mention how wonderfully healthy they made my dad look again. Their staff used just the right amount of makeup on him to make him look healthy and natural. This is no small feat. It's a gift to be able to do this well. The night of Dad's viewing the staff was courteous and flexible when the viewing started 30 minutes early and then lasted an hour longer than it was supposed to due to the number of people who came to pay their respects. The day of the funeral was a challenging day for the family but the kindness and professionalism we received from the Geisel staff helped to make an emotional day a little easier to bear. They coordinated with VFW Post 1599 so that my father could have the Honor Guard at his visitation and military honors at the cemetery. While the family was at the graveside service, Geisel's staff quickly got the flower arrangements over to the funeral reception and set them up for the family. The day after the funeral was a Saturday and we were pleasantly surprised when both Chad and Tommy returned the boxes of pictures and mementos to my parents' house. That's just one example of how their staff will go above and beyond for you during what is the most difficult week of your life. They're simply the best.
