They charged us for this call, but only after they came to the house and diagnosed an issue we already knew we had. Unfortunately, they did not disclose in any previous emails, phone calls, or even upon arrival that there would be a charge. We never received an estimate for the "trip charge", or even a receipt or any paperwork after their visit. They came highly recommended from a family member that had just had them install a new system, but it seems that maybe it's hit or miss. Definitely get everything in writing with Fosters-Kraus.

When the faucet died, I naturally asked them to find and replace the faucet. Here's what I learned: 1 - do not rely on the information provided by whoever answers the phone. They are just a receptionist with zero knowledge about what is possible or practical. 2 - do not work directly with the servicing technician on parts. they don't know how to work with the "front office" to make sure the correct part is ordered...and they don't provide any updates on status of orders. (not my job, was the essence of the explanation) They might be good at cleaning out clogged drains, but I wouldn't trust them to do that right either. Use them at your peril. You've been warned.

I received a call Monday morning saying they received my message and they could schedule us that day as they had just had a cancellation that was actually for our area. By 11:00 Am that day the service person, TJ came out and cleaned the AC compressor and gas insert and glass. I was thrilled when I saw how fabulous the fireplace looked. 2 years ago in the winter, I awoke to a cold house. I was new to the city, so I called around…read more Colony was the first available. The technician was efficient and the price reasonable. However, due to it being a Saturday, I was charged a $250 weekend service charge. The problem was that drifting snow had blocked the outflow pipe. While the technician was at my home, he received a call from my neighbor experiencing exactly the same thing. The technician advised him to clear his exhaust pipe. No charge. I did not object to the technician's service fee, but felt the weekend fee excessive, especially since my neighbor was treated fairly at NO CHARGE. Colony profited unreasonably and lost my business because of it. Dr. Sisson

I am editing my previous post to include what happened after the initial incident. Since the below…read morehappened LINS did reach out and installed the required part charging us only labor. This is what they had originally agreed to do the first time. I have been debating whether three stars is too kind in this instance as they have successfully completed the maintenance they were originally suppose to complete. Only charging us labor this time discredits the time that we previously lost coordinating our schedules and then needing to re coordinate when they called back to reschedule. I understand that mistakes do happen, and credit them for coming back. I am leaving the original comments below because the frustration is real. "We purchased our house two years ago and were told the AC unit was under warranty. We had our annual check completed last week where we discovered the AC turbine was broken and needed to be repaired. We did not know who installed the unit so I used the serial number to track the part from the distributor in Waterloo. I contacted LINS Heating & Air Conditioning and they confirmed that they installed the unit and that it would be under warranty. Fast forward to the technician showing up and taking an hour to tell us that the maintenance would not be covered and we would need to pay $130 to cover the hour it took to do nothing. I called the office and they said they were sorry for the trouble but they would accept the warranty and they would not charge for the first hour where nothing was completed. Shortly after that the owner of the company called me to say he was going to "intervene" with our problem. He informed me that they would not be covering the parts under warranty because it was clearly stated on the invoice that was given to the previous owners that their company needed to be the one to complete the annual inspection for the unit to remain under warranty. The entire experience lacked any form of customer service and I would not recommend them to anyone. To have them tell us two separate times that the maintenance would be covered and then have the owner not take any responsibility was frustrating. If they have already installed anything in your home I would recommend getting a home warranty to help cover maintenance cost when it inevitably breaks."

They were pretty good, except an error in the toilet installed (wrong bowl type) was made, and they promised to replace it "as soon as their supplier restocked". It's now May 15th, more than a month later, and not a peep from them. Since they said that I'd gotten 'the most popular model', restocking shouldn't be any issue. After a time, they were good to their word; changed out the "wrong" toilet for the perfect model that fit my needs. The installer was fast, polite and friendly, and they waived the second installation fee, charging only the difference in cost between the two. (The new toilet is far surperior to what I'd had replaced, as well!)

I recalled feeling a dip in one part of my carpet, so we cut a little hole and sure enough, there was the drain. I called and made an appointment for a technician from Mt Vernon Heating and Cooling to come and address the issue. The initial technician was unable to fix the problem, and due to unpredictable factors, they were not able to send another technician over for the rest of the day or evening. However, the owner and his wife, after spending long hours well into the early morning resolving issues for other customers, came by personally to take care of me. They were very apologetic for the lack of communication and for my experience with the first technician, and set about right away to figuring out the problem. They had my AC repaired and running in no time, and were very knowledgeable, pleasant, and professional. Despite my initial frustration, I was very happy with the end result - I realize that factors beyond their control had derailed most of the day for them, and I very much appreciate them taking the time to stop by even though they were exhausted and it was nearly 3am. I will absolutely recommend them to others - I can't speak to the quality of any other technicians on their team, but my experience with the owner and his wife has earned them a grateful and loyal customer. Thanks!
