Celebree School of Pike Creek

I feel compelled to share my experience as these issues are still happening at Celebree Preschool…read moreof Pike Creek. My child went through this firsthand--classrooms are frequently out of ratio, and children are constantly moved around, rarely staying in the appropriate class for their age or level, which is disruptive. Management seems to be hiring anyone, as new staff often don't greet parents, aren't friendly toward the children, and sometimes don't appear prepared for proper childcare. Meanwhile, dedicated teachers continue to leave due to management issues, and unfortunately, the children are the ones who suffer the most. I hope these problems are addressed soon, because while there are some good aspects to the program, these ongoing issues are impacting the quality of care children receive.

Hi, I'm a former infant/ toddler/ 2year old teacher. To say working for this team at Celebree was a…read moregreat experience is truly false. When working for this team, the male owner Cory Skidmore is very uncomfortable to be around as a women. He is very arrogant and belittled the team as if we weren't qualified while he doesn't have any credentials to be working with children at all. I've also witnessed him talking more nicely and almost buttering up certain employees but when he talked to me he was aggressive. The director Cashet Grundy is very disrespectful and rude to stay the least. When she comes into the center she is never happy to see staff or children, she would rarely walk into the 2s room but when she does she has a look of Discus on her face. Almost all of our classrooms are out of ratio due to over enrollment so If you have any children and think they are in there correct class is false. There are different teachers in each classroom everyday so there is no formality for the children to get comfortable. There are also days where we are so short staffed that the owners and directors tell us we couldn't get a break so they'd buy us lunch in stead. Me and other employees have called licensing multiple times and they have came and inspected but nothing further was done. I truly love being a daycare teacher and this is just the unfortunate circumstances at Celebree of Pike Creek. I truly believe if you are paying the amount you pay to give your children a good education with a love school community then I suggest you choose a different school because I truly believe Celebree of Pike Creek isn't the school you think it is.

In our experience, the teachers are very responsive, very involved. We feel there is an appropriate focus on reading skills and math skills at this age. The school maintains a good balance with respect to technology (Smart boards etc) and traditional learning techniques. Other thoughts: Our son's peer group is a fantastic group of well-behaved, positive children. The physical plant of the school is very clean and appealing. We love the fact they have a PE class everyday.

Put simply, the school is not what it once was. The teachers have become extremely rigid and uncompromising, and instead of welcoming feedback from the families that keep the school running, it has doubled-down on a course that is damaging the school. Any student that it not seen as The program is deemed to be more important than the students themselves, and students that do not perfectly fit the mold in the administration's eyes are ignored, criticized, and ultimately forced out, regardless of age. My 6 year old daughter even started to realize this with respect to some of her classmates, and that was the last straw for me.The level and amount of substantive instruction from the teachers has dramatically diminished over the past several years, to the point where Independence seems like a completely different school from what it was my son started several years ago. The other private and public schools in the area are likely far better choices for your child.

The owner, Ms. Cindy, is very kind and reasonable. In addition, she is very knowledgeable in regards to early childhood education and has years of experience in the field. When he began attending this school, he was in the young toddlers classroom, before moving to older toddlers and then Get Set, which prepares three year olds for preschool. His most recent teacher, Ms. Kim, is a gem. She's been at the school for over 10 years and it is very apparent that she loves what she does. She's not one of those teachers who views it as a job to collect a paycheck. She obviously has a passion for working with toddlers, which is what you want when you're sending your toddler to a facility and you're relying on others to attend to them for 6-8 hours a day. When we were having issues with potty training, she gave us valuable tips that we practice successfully to this day. She also taught my son Spanish, among many other valuable things. If we could take her with us, we would. She is the epitome of what you want in a teacher at an early childhood learning center. While enrolled at the school, my son had an accident in which he broke his foot. I was irate as none of the teachers were able to explain how it happened. Ms. Cindy worked with us and we did not have to pay a dime for the medical expenses. There were a few other little mishaps that can be experienced at any childcare center. For example, we would send him with breakfast in bowls labeled with his name and during one week, not one bowl came home. This was frustrating because parents are required to label their child's belongings and you expect said belongings to be returned. The tuition is a bit costly and food is not provided. It's something to be mindful of if you're thinking about enrolling your child.

Goddard made our transition easy and enjoyable. We absolutely love it. The teachers are fabulous, the hours are great and our boys are progressing SO much. We also love the app that they use which allows us to see what they are doing each and every day. There is no better feeling than dropping your babies off, knowing that they will be safe and happy. I would highly recommend this center to anyone.

If you have a hyper child who has outbursts of emotions and tests boundaries-- the director of this location will do whatever she can to label your child and call you after any incident to have child picked up for early dismissal. As parents we started believing that our child might have emotional delay and started getting help from the school district to early intervene. If you ask about their methods of dealing with unwanted behavior, you won't be able to talk to the teacher-- because only director can communicate with parents about any classroom issues. There is no consistency or any age appropriate methods to help guide your child. It's really scary that this place has such a "good reputation". Since we enrolled my daughter at another facility-- literally zero behavioral issues or complaints by the teachers or the daycare director, she's learning about her emotions, she's being guided instead of being labeled. She doesn't require additional learning support because her teacher is an educator who teaches her to manage her behavior and emotions. I know this place was not a right fit for my family-- and that's ok. However, a childcare facility SHOULDN'T ever be allowed to operate this way. As a parent, I have major trust issues after my experience with Hockessin KinderCare because I really hoped they had my child's best interest in mind. Instead, they are operating as a business and not an educational institution.
