While in town we ate at this restaurant 3 nights in a row, and was all set to give a 5 star review…read morebased on the first night we ate here, however after eating here several times I'm only giving it two stars. Location was right across the street from our hotel, which was a plus since it was raining every day. We were able to get a table right away right by the door with a window view. Great for people watching. Server came over, and took our order. I ordered a cappuccino, I have to say it was the best cappuccino I had the whole time I was in The Netherlands. That being said... the other times we ate here, and I ordered the cappuccino it wasn't good at all. Maybe the other nights there was a different bar tender? We each had a different soup, one was tomato, and the other chicken vegetable. They were both really good, and piping HOT. Soup came with two different types of bread slices, and were really soft with a herbed butter. (see pictures) Main dish was three types of meat, chicken, beef, and pork with some fried potatoes, and a small side of vegetables. Food was plated beautifully. Dessert was a small chocolate cake with a side of vanilla ice cream. We decided to share this dessert, which was a mistake because it was so good that we each wanted our own! This is the number one reason we decided to eat here each night we were in town. Server was very attentive, and over all we had a great experience....the first night. Every night after that service kept going down hill, and the food was not as good. I even commented that they must of had a different cook. When I asked the server, she said no. We definitely didn't have the same server as before. The very last night we ate here was the worst. They close early, and we got there around 8pm. Food took forever to get to us even though there was only a few people in the restaurant. The wait staff seemed put out, and was noisily banging dishes around, moping floors, and general clean up that usually goes on after customers have left the restaurant.

It's busy during the weekend and service is ok. The bitter ballen i had was quite ok and the beer choice was also ok. A nice place to stop for a drink or a bit to eat when you are in the area. The prices are certainly acceptable, as well as being proportional to each meal type. The staff here was very attentive and hospitable, tending well to all customers during the nights that we were there (and it could get quite bustling). I was a bit entertained during dinner one night when I casually asked if they could make a mimosa (it doesn't seem that they have a formal drink menu) and our server herself was very confused. As I was explaining to her that it's usually just a mix of orange juice and sparkling white wine, the woman who was tending bar that night walked by. Our server asked if she could make a mimosa and she said "Oh, yeah! Certainly." She smiled and back to tend the bar area quickly, and the server soon was back to the table with a mimosa. Tasty drink, even if served with a massive straw (the first time I've had that happen). Haha. Anyway, the food was consistently cooked well and the atmosphere of the place is certainly enjoyable. A previous reviewer mentioned that their cutlery was presented in paper bags, but that's not anything I experienced during my recent visits. When my oysters (first visit) were served, they came with a small spoon and fork...so it seems that issue has also been tended to. If nothing else, I enjoyed my experiences (and the convenience) at the Brasserie Halte 3. If I was ever back in Amsterdam, I'd certainly enjoy a visit to this restaurant again.

The ambience was excellent and I felt that the layout - (small rooms set off from each other), it meant that our number didn't cause others any bother in terms of numbers of voices and loudness etc. The food was very good. I had the fish (Dorado I think, never eaten before) it was delicious and looked great too. We stayed until midnight and then made our departure after asking for advice of places to go and clubs to try. For a country that holds a little over 17 million people, that's prrrrretty insane. An average Dutch person cycles 880 km [almost 550 miles] a year. First night, I got a supposedly "tender leg of lamb" - nothing tender about it as it was seriously over cooked. The cheesy sauce was a little sickening by the time I got through half of the plate. Wouldn't go back even though it's a very pleasant atmosphere. Shame.
