I was also disappointed to later discover that the bottle I purchased was very heavily marked up. The same wine was available at H-E-B for significantly less. I understand that a specialty wine shop may charge a premium, and I'm happy to pay a little more when that comes with knowledgeable recommendations and personalized service. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience here, so I won't be returning.

I told him I was on my way. When I arrived, he had the bottle ready for me, and I thanked him. I also asked how long the store had been there; he mentioned about five years. I realized I had driven past that place countless times without noticing it--it's kind of tucked away on the corner. We started chatting, and I was delighted to find out he was the owner. That moment meant a lot to me--not just because the store is close to my job, but because it's a Black-owned business, which truly touched my heart. I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear when he shared that. I vowed that from then on, this would be my go-to liquor store. There are three employees there, and they are the most welcoming, pleasant people I've ever met. Over the past few months, they've gotten to know me, and every visit is always a warm experience. Yesterday, I went in to get my usual, and I was greeted with friendly smiles and genuine warmth--"Hey, how's it going? How are things? Just getting off work? Good to see you." I had requested a bottle of Chardonnay, but one of the staff members accidentally ordered Moscato instead. It was no big deal, and he apologized, saying he'd get the correct one for me. Then, unexpectedly, he said, "Do me a favor--take this bottle of Chardonnay and try it. Tell me what you think." He didn't have to do that; I truly believe he did it because that's just who he is, not just because I'm a regular customer. I was about to decline, but he insisted, so I accepted. Just then, a woman from the back, smiling warmly, introduced herself as one of the owners. I'd never seen her before, but she explained she was listening and wanted to come say hello, expressing her appreciation for my support. It warmed my heart in a way words can't fully express. If their tank is nearly empty, you won't be able to get a reasonable CO2 refill. They say "only refill by pressure", not by the weight of CO2 going into your tank. I have a 5lb tank and wanted a 5lb refill. They could only provide a 1lb refill (equalizing the pressure between their nearly empty tank and my tank) which is dishonestly inequitable for the fee. They won't tell you their available capacity up front, even though I specifically asked for 5lbs. I had to came back with a scale to show them they only provided one lb. Initially they offered a 50% refund. I told them, I only received one lb. which isn't even half. So, they purged the tank (into the air) of the one lb they did provide and refunded the entire amount to me, returning my tank empty. The moral to the story is don't get a refill from these guys. Go to a supplier that will pump the CO2 into your tank - not through recharging by pressure equalization.

Though I don't drink beer anymore, I love that they do have a line of ciders and sparkling water at the brewery; and they have a few wine options. I wasn't expecting much, but it was crispy and had zesty pesto sauce that made it even better. If you don't want to order from their kitchen, they do have food trucks and other artisan vendors, entertainment. Do a tour if you can. It's kid and dog-friendly. And it's a great spot to watch some sports on their big screen with views of the downtown Houston skyline. Also, love that SA supports so many non-profit events. High community involvement...

The 1st time I came, this rule made sense but the second time they had damn near as many workers as customers. So, I have only tried 3 beers. A stout that I didn't care for and 2 IPA's that were pretty good. There is no food onsite and the 2 times that I was there, I didn't see a food truck either. They also offer free parking for the Astros games if you have a 15,00 tab so that alone is worth the visit.

La Carafe has had several lives since then, and there are many people keeping this place running. But as fate would have it, it's still in the hands of another guy named John. Struck up a conversation with John, longtime bartender of twenty years, who is just as interesting as the wine bar itself! One night at this place was just not enough. I am a delivery driver who uses a bicycle to work. I should not be treated differently, judged, or made to feel unwelcome simply because I arrive by bicycle rather than by car. During these interactions, her behavior made me feel as though I was being treated like I was homeless or did not belong at the store. I find this extremely disrespectful and humiliating. This is not an isolated misunderstanding anymore, because it has happened twice. I am asking management to please take this complaint seriously, speak with the employee involved, and ensure that delivery drivers are treated with the same basic professionalism and respect regardless of whether they arrive by bicycle, motorcycle, or car. I actually want to continue supporting your business and accepting Uber Eats and DoorDash orders from your store. I simply expect to be treated respectfully while doing my job.
