This building used to be the Sanibel school for colored children. It is now a wonderful jewelry store. Although they did not have any jewelry I wanted, they did have a wide variety of free cookies. I enjoyed a chocolate cranberry cookie. read more
Great inventory of unique jewelry much of which is supplied from local area artist. Had a great time and bought a few overpriced pieces that will remind us of Sanibel for years to come. We really enjoyed the place and would go again on our next trip to Sanibel. read more
Lily & Company Jewelry is Sanibel Island's premier jewelry gallery. Guests are treated to exquisite jewelry, custom sea life pendants, and fine art all housed in one of Sanibel's historic landmarks.
History
Established in 2006.
Lily & Co.'s building has a rich history, spanning more than 90 years on Sanibel. Constructed in 1915, the building on 520 Tarpon Bay Road in Sanibel was originally owned by the Florida Baptist Convention of Jacksonville. In 1929 the building opened as a school for African American children during Lee County's efforts to update the educational facilities throughout the county. The school remained in service until around 1963, when the current Sanibel Elementary School, the island's first integrated school was built.
In 2006, in a change from its origins, the store became Sanibel's first jewelry gallery combining a fine jewelry store and art gallery in one location. Lily Co.'s owners are proud of the building's long heritage and invite all guests to drop in and travel back in time!
