As a devoted pet parent, I take the health of my cats very seriously and try to approach their care…read morein a thoughtful, holistic way whenever possible. When my cat Chairmann began having recurring episodes of vomiting and periods where he would stop eating for several days, I knew we had reached the point where veterinary care and diagnostic testing were necessary.
Because we take a more holistic approach in our own lives and with our animals, I specifically searched for a veterinarian who was open-minded and practiced integrative medicine. Dr. Tiffany Mosley's name came up during my research because her practice incorporates acupuncture, herbal medicine, and conventional veterinary care, which sounded very much like what I was looking for.
Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing, primarily because of the lack of direct communication with the veterinarian.
During Chairmann's consultation, I spoke with Dr. Mosley for approximately 10-15 minutes. That was the only direct conversation I had with her throughout the entire process. When Chairmann's test results came back and a diagnosis was made, Dr. Mosley did not call me to discuss the findings. Instead, the information was relayed through veterinary technicians.
Any time I had questions or concerns, I was required to leave a message with a technician. The technician would then speak with Dr. Mosley and relay her response back to me. I was specifically told that this was the way communication was handled and that I could not speak directly with the veterinarian.
For me, this was extremely frustrating and unsettling. When your animal is sick, you are trusting the veterinarian not only with their medical care, but also to help you understand what is happening, discuss treatment options, answer questions, and work with you in making decisions. I do not expect unlimited access to a veterinarian, but I do expect the opportunity to have a direct conversation when discussing a diagnosis, treatment plan, or significant concerns about my pet.
Dr. Mosley and I ultimately had differing opinions about Chairmann's treatment, and I have no issue with professionals and pet parents occasionally seeing things differently. What troubled me was that I was never given the opportunity to discuss those differences with her directly.
As a business owner myself, I understand that difficult conversations and unhappy clients are inevitable. What matters is how those situations are handled. Even after I expressed serious concerns about Chairmann's care and my inability to communicate directly with the veterinarian, I never received a call or direct follow-up from Dr. Mosley.
I was also concerned by the way I saw some critical Google reviews responded to by Dr. Mosley. Several reviewers who described negative experiences received responses that, in my opinion, came across as defensive and confrontational rather than focused on resolving the concern. Seeing those interactions, combined with my own experience when I raised concerns, left me uncomfortable with how criticism and difficult situations appear to be handled by the practice.
That, more than the disagreement over treatment itself, was the most disappointing part of my experience. As a pet parent, I wanted to feel heard, respected, and included in decisions concerning an animal I love deeply. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here.
I am sharing this because other pet parents who are looking for an integrative veterinarian may want to understand how communication is handled within this practice before deciding where to take their pet. For me, having direct access to the veterinarian for important discussions about diagnosis and treatment is essential, and ultimately this practice was not the right fit for us.
