Dr. Lucie Hemmen has a gift for working with teens. We began consulting with her when our children…read morewere young adolescents, and she provided excellent advice - both to us and to our kids - as we addressed common issues such as school choice, stress, peer issues, and family dynamics. She facilitated better communication for us all and helped smooth the way for a relatively conflict-free teenage period in our household. For a family seeking a wise and approachable therapist to work with during the teen years, Lucie can't be beat. Much more important, however, she can also be counted on in a crisis. When our daughter fell into a sudden, unexpected, and severe depressive episode, we were able to turn to Lucie on an emergency basis and count on her support and advice every step of the way. She made herself available so that we could consult with her - via text, phone, and in person - as we navigated what is every parent's worst nightmare. She helped us keep the channels of communication open with our child, advised us about when and where to seek additional help, and nurtured a close and trusting relationship with our child that continues to this day. I am not given to hyperbole, but I must say that Lucie's support and wisdom were invaluable. I cannot imagine how we would have weathered this crisis without her.

Here is where Dave comes in - he created a safe space for her to "be ok" with teen-age angst and the experiences that come with it. Dave has a knack of making anyone comfortable and his authenticity and compassionate nature naturally shines through. The beauty about this partnership is that it all happens out in the ocean. Unconventional yes, but one cannot ride a wave in a therapy room. I know for sure after a session with Dave my kid is mellow, considerate and actually pleasant to be around. The "aha" moment for me was when my daughter was faced with a difficult situation in school, as she was sharing the issue with me, instead of going from 0 to 60...she paused, took a deep breathe, spoke outwardly and asked, What would Dave Say?? After several years of suffering from depression and anxiety, I was at a breaking point where I no longer enjoyed life the way I used to. I felt like the shell of a person who was just going through the motions of daily life; void of happiness and love (for myself and others). From the very first session, Dana made me feel comfortable and at ease. She took the time to understand me and what was really at the core of my issues. The one thing that I appreciated the most was that she really helped me to understand myself, and WHY I have certain reactions or thoughts. Then she showed me HOW to change the things that were causing me so much grief. *Spoiler!* It required me to put in work, and it was hard and scary at times. But all of the "homework" has led me to today; where I can truly say that I am a happy person. I am so much more capable and strong because of the way Dana has positively influenced the direction and energy of my life. I have so much to be grateful for, including this ability to change and grow as a person. Dana is the kind of therapist that will basically end up costing herself business, because you won't have to keep going forever! She gives you the tools to take control. I no longer see Dana regularly, but I am constantly referring to the clever and wise advice she shared with me. I'm still working on things, and I probably always will have to.
