I have walked into many churches in my life and have never felt the presence of the Lord until I came to Lighthouse. I knew that this is where I need to be and you can ask members of the congregation and some will say the same thing. Lighthouse started at Living Word Christian Fellowship 30 years ago and has grown into a multi generational church. This is a church when I am blessed by the Lord to find a wife and have children that I will be taking them there. The young adult and youth ministries are amazing. The worship in service is spectacular. Every single week, I always get something out of Pastor Gary Dunahoo's sermons that I use in my daily life. I haven't been to the young adults worship yet, but when the young adults pastor, Marc Wymore does a sermon in front of the whole congregation, it takes me 2-3 weeks to process because it is phenomenal and seems to always be what I need to hear at the right time. As for the comment about being ignored by the pastor, this is false. I have never once had that happen to me. It is the exact opposite. Pastor Gary takes the time to talk to you. All you have to do is walk up to him. It's pretty easy. Pastor Marc is the same way. And this church has other leaders that you can talk to that have been with this church for decades and love Lighthouse and are always there for you. This Church helped save my life and I am forever grateful. You can feel God's presence there. Take a chance and come visit Lighthouse and see what I am talking about. First visit was good... great worship .. but stay tuned. Beautiful grounds. Could be friendlier to visitors but most focused on fellowship with friends. Not a bad thing but if you want to feel welcomed the moment you step inside the church... you might get the wrong impression. read more

I attended Lighthouse for 4 + years and was Baptisted there by Pastor Gary. I loved the prayer team on Sunday service. Aways brought me comfort and faith when they would pray for my needs. I just started going here last weekend as I began my journey back to christ. I was welcomed with open arms, love, and compassion. I feel no judgment here. Everyone is so sweet and real and accepts people with their past and their flaws. The pastor is pretty young but is incredible and such a light. The music is great! I absolutely love this church. The pastors are the best. Our family has been attending for more then 20 years. We are very actively involved. I love the community outreach. The kids ministry is the best kids as young as 2 are taught the Word. The teachers are kind, & love teaching the kids. The teaching from the pulpit is always on point. Lighthouse Church in Newbury Park is the best church I've ever been to in my entire life. And believe me, as the son of a weekend warrior evangelist, I've been to hundreds. Lighthouse has an energetic, funny, articulate, wonderful new pastor. The church wants to bring Christ into the lives of all the people of the Conejo Valley. It has a heart to serve and to love. IF YOU ARE TRANS DO NOT GO HERE. I attended lighthouse's youth group (I am 17) and had a lot of fun the first time I went. I got very close to one of my group leaders, and felt comfortable enough to tell him that I was transgender (female to male) even though I appear as a cisgender male (due to medical transition). I stated when I told him that it was really hard for me to share with people this information. The first thing he did with that information was go to the youth pastor, Max, and share that personal information. Next week when I returned, Max pulled me aside to talk to me privately. He told me that he was happy I returned, and that he prayed for me, which I appreciate (genuinely). Then he said my group leader told him I was trans, asked what it meant, I explained it to him, no biggie. He started this next statement with the fact I was welcome and I didn't have to change for this church, but the point was that I could no longer be in the high school boys' group. Because I was born female, and they "follow the scripture" (which says nothing transphobic by the way), and God made us man and woman. I could either go with the girls or not go at all. His main reasonings was that he didn't want the other boys to be uncomfortable, but when I suggested asking them himself instead of just assuming he wouldn't even try. I kept my cool and said it was okay, I would just stay with the pastor while everyone else split off into groups, but when worship began and the music was playing, I couldn't help but just burst into tears. I have been told by the church my entire life that God chose who I am, he made me a woman, but Max, if you are reading this, why would He, in the same breath, give me the clarity that I am a man when everyone on earth tells me otherwise? If God makes us who we are, not society, how am I a woman? People who do things like this have no real grasp of the shame transition brings upon a child. Not because they are trans, but because of society. If I could live as a woman I would, I guarantee you I would. But I also guarantee I would've killed myself long ago if I didn't transition, and I have tried previously many times. I want to connect with Jesus, not tolerate hate in disguise, or anyone who panders to hate. Do better, lighthouse. Do better. read more

Positives +Authentic people +Fairly diverse population, but def. welcoming to all so just go +Saturday 6pm service option in addition to two Sunday services +Great 5th & 6th grade youth group --on Saturday nights especially -- starts at 6PM -- go! +Pretty good worship music, although fairly loud +Near some good eats -- Chipotle, Presto Pasta, Starbucks, and more within range +Good coffee, tea, hot chocolate and donuts served during service +Welcoming +Bible based church, meaning they refer to the Bible (not some made up stuff, or just their opinions) when preaching and teaching +Nursery available and classes for kids and teens that go on during Church service (seems optional) +Baby room in back, left of sanctuary of church if you want to hang out with your children (as opposed to leave in nursery) and not have to worry about them crying/nursing/playing etc. Negatives +While the church has small groups you can join if you'd like, etc., if you are new you really need to be proactive to plug yourself in to these small groups, if you are looking for someone to move you along and chase you it may or may not happen -- but know if you are proactive and join something you and your family WILL be welcome -- +Welcoming - if you are a newbie you might feel this Church sometimes is too welcoming, for example, I've been asked multiple times by a really nice lady if I want a hug, the truth is while I think she is truly nice I'm not that touchy feely... so I just smile and say , awww, no thanks but thanks, and keep on moving... simply push through it and know these are folks truly with a heart of God who authentically want to welcome you and make sure you feel welcome--- it's no big deal, but I think I'd feel better if someone told me about this before visiting read more

Incredible church! I was in the city visiting and yelped a nearby Christian church, thankfully, we were lead to Lighthouse Church! The pastor did a great job of delivery his message with conviction and enthusiasm! I would love to return and hope to be in area more! Worship was great also! And, everyone was very welcoming! "Last year while visiting some family in CA, my family and I were looking for a church to visit. Someone at the local supermarket recommended LightHouse in Thousand Oaks. We decided to give it a try. When we arrived we were instantly greeted but some very welcoming faces! Everyone there was so welcoming, the worship was great and so was the preaching. This church is so loving and welcoming. Every person I've met so far has been so kind and genuine. I have three little ones and they love going to class each week and come home talking about Jesus. It makes me so happy that while I get to hear great preaching and am growing, my kids are experiencing it as well in their own class. Moved to the area just over a year ago and I have to say that coming to Lighthouse has been the best decision we have made. Our kids love the kids area, the music is so powerful and all the talks are very practical, challenging, and moving. It is home and will continue to be for a long time.
