Thank goodness for DR, Aponte. Short Version: Went Blind in an instant, out of the blue, in one eye. Suffered unbelievable discomfort for a couple of months, Dr. Aponte fixed it. Long Version: I worked as a part-time cleaner in Hayward Wisconsin for Don Johnson Chevrolet, 3 days a week, extra 1k per month bring home on top of my Social Security, and more STEPS than one could count. On a nice Sunday on the way to work for 2 to 3 hours, after about 3 years of doing the same routines I was confident in the upcoming short-day accomplishment. I decided to stop for a quick breakfast at the fairly new restaurant in town, Out of the car, open the door, and in the 4 steps to the hostess my dominant eye and favorite eye had a black curtain descend, no warning, no pain, just gone. In my bewilderment I walked with the hostess and was seated and from the menu chose my breakfast. I was alone and seated next to a family of 7 or so happy laughing people, I came to the conclusion that I had 3 choices, 1. Go home take a nap and hope the problem goes away, 2. Continue on to work and hope the vision comes back. 3, Go to the emergency room, cause maybe this is a sign of a stroke! Meal finished, I drove to the emergency room and they suggested I made the correct decision. After some investigation they sent me to the closest big hospital facility 100 miles away St. Mary's in Duluth Minnesota a seemingly longer ambulance than it actually was. They determined, after lots of testing that I did not have a brain-stroke but instead I had an eyeball-stroke. Some small blood clot or random piecef of loose cholesterol had blocked the blood flow to my retina and made it dead, never to return. Upon release they sent me to the Retina Center of Minnesota to monitor my eyeball health, most of the patients there were Glaucoma patients who are very slowly losing there vision, unlike my instant and complete blindness. After a few visits there they concluded that I needed some surgical relief to help with the continued pressure and suggested Lifeview Glaucoma Center of Duluth Minnesota and Dr. Aponte, a name said with an increased volume of respect. (and I agree with that respect) My horrendous symptoms and the 2 operations that ended the suffering: You would think that losing sight and wrestling with depth perception, of only having one seeing eye would be enough to go through, But no, there were other mystical things that showed up out of the blue. 1, Fake Sinus Headache only above the now blind eye. 2, Torrent of Tears flowing out of the now blind eye. 3, Sensitivity to Light that is torturous. My answer to these things was to take up to 4 Aleve pills a day, I am not supposed to take any pain reliever NSAIDs because of other meds I am taking. And taking an Anti-histamine pill also helped with the gush of daily tears. The only other thing I found to temporarily help was to sit and put my head between my knees to relieve the pressure. (hard to watch TV this way) Thank goodness for Dr, Aponte and the 2 operations that removed this daily suffer. Why did these daily miseries happen? I have no Idea, so I made up my own layman's story of the eyeball stroke and the futile epic struggle of the eye trying to fix itself. The eye does not have many tools to fix a blind retina but it seems to be more than happy to try using the only tools it knows.
