The good news is that if you only need it for 1 to 2 hours it's probably your cheapest option: $10 for 1st hour and $5 each additional. This company provides a variety of backcountry tours and equipment rentals, however this review is just about the Eklutna Lake kayak and bike rental. My overall impression, shoddy. We have rented twice from them. The first time for the "paddle and pedal" package which involves kayaking across the lake and then biking back. The kayaking was ok but our bikes literally fell apart on the way back and we had to have someone else in our party ride ahead to get them to pick us up. Lame. Most recently we just rented kayaks for half a day. Their kayaks were absolute junk, broken seats, no hand pumps, and all had their rudders broken off. When I asked why they had no rudders I was told "Oh, you don't really need a rudder." Um...ok, you don't really need my money either. Perhaps if they didn't have the exclusive contract to rent equipment at this location they might not be so lax. read more

They were very nice! Had a bike for me right away. They explained how to use it and where to go. If you answer a trivia question you get the first two hours free! They were also cheaper than the other bike rental one across the street and it's closest to the coastal trail! read more

The young lady that works @ the office was very friendly. She took her time and made sure we were comfortable. She gave a great safety briefing. They provided everything that we needed, even rain jackets. It was great to be so close to the city and yet be able to get to experience such beauty! Eklutna lake is breath taking! We followed Eklutna lake route on the GPS and the office was located around a one way loop and we had to park and then go over a little wooden bridge which added to the ambiance. We had no problem with our kayaks and our rudders were there and functioned perfectly fine. They provide sea kayaks which are very steady. She gave us lots of good tips like not lifting our paddles to high (to stay dry) and made sure we had our legs comfortably on the rudder peddles and knew exactly how to use them. Next time I'd like to get a single kayak instead of using a double with my teenage son. The lake is about 8 miles long so take your time and enjoy. Looking forward to our next trip! I gave this four stars since I'm a fan and I have nothing else to compare to. We will be making Eklutna Lake one of our spots while in Ak. FYI not that it should be expected but there is no cell phone reception. read more
