The suite was clean and had everything we needed. It was very cute! Great option in Hamlin. We definitely would stay here again!

Traveling to New Mexico through Texas, there isn't many options in the smaller towns our route is…read moretaking us through. Being Hilton Honors members we try to stay and Hilton branded hotels, this one was the only one around unless we drove another hour to Lubbock, tho that was way out of our way. The pictures online show a classier 3 star hotel than what you see when you arrive. The covered drive up area had rolls of carpet and a few conex boxes as well. Ok, cool, they are renovating, that could be a good sign. Walking inside, it's a visual of half done projects with some newer areas on small doses on the first floor. The dining room is next to the counter and it has newer furniture... tho no tv's. If you want your news or entertainment while eating breakfast or other meals, you better bring your own device to watch it on. We got checked in and the lady at the counter was friendly enough. Even when I requested something to be fixed that never was tended too, more on that to come. We were on the 2nd floor, end of the hall. The hallway definitely shows the need to renovate. The carpet alone is a HUGE tripping hazard with ripples and rolls all over the place, seams torn and fraying. It's a mess as it sits, not to mention its design looks like it should be in a casino. It's an interesting design. That doesn't effect my review, just an observation, tho the quality of it's condition does effect my review. The room was ok, was clean as far as I could tell. This is another hotel that doesn't use the bed bug mattress protectors, to add to that the fitted sheet was barely on the corners. Looks like they have a 4 inch side fitted sheet on an 8 inch mattress. Be warned, it'll peel up while you sleep and when you wake up you're likely to be on part of the mattress. I didn't notice any bed critters upon a quick inspection, tho I didn't tear the sheets off completely either. The pillows were smaller than twin sized pillows and very flat. I was so uncomfortable even with two pillows. The bathroom, goodness, looks like they tried to update than decided to leave the ambience of worn rustic update. The faucet and counter top was newish, but the shower was weak, the clear caulk around the seams along the shower tray was a mess, I looked like a toddler did it. The wallpaper is peeling, the ceiling had stains. It was a mix of oddities combined with shiny chrome and sliding glass doors. The reviews here on Yelp creates a lower rating. The surprise is the rating on Google has it at 4.2 stars with 506 reviews, not sure why there is such a large discrepancy. I can overlook renovations, I understand that creates a mess, tho the way it looks like they are renovating some parts and not others, or they aren't just going room by room, makes it a bit of a visual mess.

The bathroom floor had no grout because it crumbled from obvious water damage. Bed linens were very gross and stained.

Moronic hanging of the shower curtain. Old, cracked caulk around tub fixtures. All stairwells filthy. Burnt edges on all omelettes. Too-cheap-tasting orange juice. The Verdict: Why would Holiday Inn Express allow this location to represent their brand?

But when you turned the corner to go to the elevator, it smelled overwhelmingly of fecal matter some how. Luckily, a trip up the broken floored elevator didn't smell. The room was ok- tiny tv, old and scratched- wheezing ac unit, and sheets that looked like they hadn't been washed properly. It was not good. Our total bill for ONE NIGHT was over $200 after taxes. Insane. This is about an $80/night hotel. Max. Should be labeled a best western or red roof. Not on the IHG par. Stained, unkempt, smelly, and broken. Front doors of the hotel didn't even work. The lobby lady was lovely. I worry about her. The lights in the parking lot didn't work. Not one. There were tiny bugs here and there in the room, on the coffee maker - not an infestation- nothing I would have thought about if it was a good hotel. But this was just ridiculous. 1.5 stars, because I did get a good nights sleep.

It had new carpet that felt clean. Even the bathroom looked okay at a glance, and I was quite amused to find the same sliding shower doors my home had in the 1970s and 80s. BUT: walking around barefoot, I soon discovered that the area around the toilet was sticky (gross!!!). The toilet had, at best, rust stains that looked bad. Paint on the ceiling was peeling. And the caulk around the shower and toilet was both moldy and failing badly. The area under the sink was very dirty too. And the lamp beside my bed didn't work. The breakfast was okay for a free breakfast, but didn't compare well vs. the offerings of peer hotel chains. The sausage was as good as I've had at a hotel, but the scrambled eggs, sitting in water, were very unappealing. I'd gladly give up the little can of Pringles and the cute towel-dog in exchange for an actually-clean floor in the bathroom.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that the elevators were not working, and our room would be on the fourth floor. That would have been impossible for us because I am 81 years old and am a heart patient and have blood cancer. My wife is 79 years old and walks with cane. There was no way we could manage luggage and other baggage to the fourth floor. We asked if we could cancel the reservation, and the desk clerk said she cancelled it for us. However, we were still charged $194.97, even though we did not stay at the hotel. I worked through Priceline to obtain a refund, but the hotel has refused to refund the charge. I also have filed a dispute with my bank. My advice is do not stay at this hotel!
