This is the last in my series related to my knee surgery to replace a torn ACL. See…read morelasthttp://www.yelp.com/biz/osi-physical-therapy-saint-paul-3#hrid:3K1H4lUQ2Z8CI_P0i3B1Ew for the previous review. The Brace Place is owned by St. Croix Orthopaedics. I came to this conclusion because 1) their web site is a single page in the St. Croix Ortho web site, and 2) their office is in the same building as the St. Croix Ortho clinic in Stillwater. So it's not surprise that when my doc said I needed to get a post-op knee brace before my surgery that he recommended The Brace Place. It was only a few days (maybe a week) before my surgery, so I didn't have time to shop around and had no idea where to start. I feel like he should have disclosed the face that they owned it. With that said, however, I'm pretty happy with the shop. There is one main guy that runs the place and he usually has an assistant in the office with him. I've been there three or four different times and each time there is a different assistant. But all of them knew their stuff. They were able to answer my questions, were very friendly, and never talked down to me. The main guy is a bit grumpy when you talk to him over the phone, but when you get him talking about what he really knows (braces), he gets friendlier. I wanted to go in to get an adjustment on a brace and didn't want to make an official appointment because I knew it would only take a few minutes. When I called, he complained how busy he was, but he would see if he could help. It was around the Holidays, so he didn't have help and when I got there, I had to wait 15 minutes before he showed up. But he was very helpful once I saw him and got the brace adjusted. It turned out I was putting it on wrong, but he wasn't condescending or impatient about it. Overall, I would recommend The Brace Place for any of your medical bracing needs. You can get basic braces for limbs and joints off the Internet for cheaper, but if you need a "professional" one for surgery or active sports, I wouldn't shy away from recommending them.

i am waiting for my operation next Tuesday and while they made a few small errors when helping me…read morethey were clerical/miscommunication issues and not pertinent to my surgery or the great care I have received so far (We are all human). I was in intense pain until this morning and wasn't very kind to the staff and yet still they were so kind and helpful to me. Doctor/Surgeon Pepin is professional, knowledgeable and really took time to thoroughly explain in great depth the nuances of my meniscus tear while reviewing my MRI. I was initially upset as I wasn't prescribed anything stronger than Tylenol and ALEVE for my immense pain, i woke up today (5 days after accident) and my knee still obviously hurts but it's definitely manageable with the Tylenol and ALEVE and using a cold compression every hour just as Dr.Pepin planned. I would advise patients in similar situations to simply adhere to Dr.Pepin (I don't know nor am I reviewing any other Doctor/surgeon at Summit Orthopedics) plan as he is a very knowledgeable and experienced professional. As Dr. Pepin explained to me the first few days (4 for me) will be the most painful (pre-op) and then the pain should somewhat subside before surgery which ended up being exactly occurred. Don't use Dr.Google when assessing your injury or the pain management plan case/patient is different and it will lead you down a rabbit hole, not mention it's disrespectful to the good Doctor. As Doctor Pepin explained to me the reason a more potent pain medication wasn't prescribed in my case (probably most patients with my type of injury) PRE-OPERATION is so that after my operation next Tuesday these narcotic type medications will have a much greater effect on the more intense pain that I, the patient will feel after surgery. This is a fact based on scientific research and is actually done with the best interest of you the patient in mind. *This review was completed PRE-OPERATION and a further review and assessment will be written after surgery.
