This is a pretty good gym. I usually use the treadmills, weights, steam room and pool. Generally speaking, the place is in good repair and the child care center is well staffed and full of friendly folks. You really can't find a much better gym, and hey, if you want a massage afterwards, no problem. You can get that taken care of right on site. read more

I have had such a terrible experience with this location. Three of my siblings are members in other states so when I moved to this area I decided to check this one out. The sales person, Kel, recommended I do the monthly rate because although it's more expensive there is no issue with cancelling if I decide it is not a good fit for me. I went with that option knowing my job would be pretty crazy and seeing that this location wasn't very clean. I stayed for about two months and I've been trying to cancel since January 8th. Kel called me and told me to not worry about coming in and I'll only be charged for the next 30 days. However it has been two months (almost 3) and I'm getting calls and emails saying I owe money. I contacted Kel in mid March to ask why I'm being charged and he confirmed this was an error on the clubs end and that he would take care of it immediately. Today, I received a bill with late fees added. Mind you I haven't stepped foot in their filthy gym since beginning of January. He has since stopped responding to my emails. When I emailed his manager I still heard no response. DON'T SIGN UP. They are shady and the gym is not clean. read more

I do enjoy this gym, but there are some downfalls. The women's bathroom is always disgusting. I get that when you apply to work at a gym you don't plan on having to clean the bathrooms, but for god's sake, someone has to do it! Maybe they should hire an outside company to come in every day and clean them. The showers aren't too gross, but as they are heavily used I can understand their condition. Just always, always, always wear flip flops or shower shoes when showering! The smoothies in the cafe are pretty good, but the food is not that great. I imagine most of it is microwaved as it looks like they don't have a proper kitchen. They finally got curbs to put in front of the handicapped spots!!! It was so annoying that people would pull all the way up into the parking space and most of the front end of their vehicles would be taking up sidewalk space, which is the main path that people take to get into the front door. I never thought I would be so excited for curbs in a parking lot! It was such a pain to walk into and out of the gym as there wasn't enough room to have two people walk past each other on the sidewalk. Another downfall is the price. It is expensive but my boyfriend likes that they have towel service and I like the sauna, hot tub, and steam room. I took a free workshop that was very informational and I got a free personal training session from the trainer who did the workshop, but little did I realize that it is a gimmick to try to get you to sign up for personal training sessions which cost $70-$100 a session depending on the trainer's education. The dietician/ personal trainer at this site is kind of a joke. He wears suits every day. Give me a break, you work at a gym. If you want to be taken seriously by the people trying to be healthy perhaps you should wear something that makes it look like you are going to train with them. When we did our free personal training session with him when we first signed up as members he still wore a suit. It was pretty strange to see him try to do squats with a kettle bell in a suit! But all the other trainers are pretty helpful and look like they really try. Jeff is excellent and positive. I didn't feel too pressured to sign up for sessions with him, but then the dietician came over and tried to pressure me more. That turns me off. I don't like to be pressured into anything. So for the most part this place is ok for a gym. If they cleaned up the bathroom and got a better kitchen I think it would be perfect. I should also mention that there is a day care for people who have kids, and a small indoor rock climbing area. The kids look like they are always having fun. They do activities with them rather than just sit them in front of a tv like the gym day care center we went to when we were kids. read more

I am an avid climber and the reason one of the reasons I joined this gym. There is a myriad of equipment and the staff is very friendly. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the bathroom isn't as clean as I would prefer. Other than that, the perfect gym for me! read more

I am pretty shocked reading all the negative reviews. I visited Life Time Fitness numerous times during two different trips, and I never encountered the horrors that people mentioned. Personally, I think most of the bad reviews are coming from people who have unrealistically lofty expectations. Concerning the customer service: I would say that the reception desk staff could be friendlier, but SHRUG, I didn't go to the gym to chit-chat with the desk staff, (because I have a life) but to take advantage of the heavenly facilities. And I have never had someone be rude to me, but rather neutral and efficient, at worst. I would say that when I was first looking for the yoga studio, an assistant walked me across the huge weight lifting area to show it to me. The cafe's service is NOT slow, but normal. They have to prepare the food after all. Maybe some of these reviewers don't know the time involved with cooking or preparing food. Maybe they have servants to prepare everything, who knows. But I have eaten in the cafe at various times of the day, including lunch hour and never have I been SHOCKED at how slow they are. And when I did receive my food. It was flavorful, and of course I was confident that it was healthy. The prices are a bit high, but manageable. Several times I spent HOURS there, first taking a yoga class, then taking a shower, and then doing laps in the pool, to finish everything out with a lunch in the cafe. Let me say that the instructors are top notch, although some of the HOT YOGA instructors, while knowledgeable were more like bootcamp instructors in their style ...so be prepared for a WORKOUT! I prefer the yin yoga classes here. And I do wish they offered more NON Hot Vinyasa Flow classes. For me, I find that I prefer to sweat naturally, while doing a yoga class. As a yoga instructor myself, I know that Hot Yoga is not actually the best for your body. It creates an unnatural stress. Asanas are meant to create an INNER fire through physical exertion. The idea is to get energized from within, not heat yourself from the outside in. But whatever that is the fashion trend of yoga these days. And I would say - it would be nice to have a larger yoga studio, because the classes are very popular and if you don't get there a few minutes early, you may not find a spot. And this is at any time of the day. One last comment, for those of us taking a non-hot yoga class following a yoga class, it would be nice to have a fan to clear out the heat and all that comes with heat in a room of sweaty people in between classes. But one thing I want to correct in reference to the bad reviews were comments about uncleanliness ... REALLY? Every time I went there, I saw that the place was incredibly clean. And the staff were ON IT when it came to cleaning surfaces and picking up towels. Maybe that ONE-TIME customer came in and saw a few things out of order that ONE-TIME, but after visiting the Canton facility repeated times, in the morning, evening and evening in the late spring and then in the late summer of this year, I never saw anything amiss in the way of order or cleanliness. My experience everytime I went there was this wonderfully peaceful and dare I say, beautiful for a gym to go to work out or to relax. The pool facilities by themselves are amazing. There is a large community pool inside with a huge waterslide. And a pool for laps. And I sooooo appreciate the lap pool because I won't have to dodge around kids,etc. The same two pools are duplicated outside. AND there is a kiddie pool as well. Back inside there is also a jacuzzi, a wet and a dry sauna. Honestly, I WISH there was a lifetime fitness gym where I live in Washington state. Believe me, it would be a HUGE success in the Seattle area! We need good gyms as much of the year as it rains at least half of the year. But if you build one out here, you will have to design a FAR LARGER room for yoga. And FYI, hot yoga isn't as popular out here. In closing, unless you are accustomed to elite country clubs that cost thousands of dollars a year or gyms where movie stars and celebrities go, I think you will be thrilled to be a lifetime member. The price is really reasonable for all that is offered. But if you aren't going to take full advantage of everything this club offers -- you just want to take an aerobics class a couple times a week, for instance, save your money and go to planet fitness or whatever gym on a shoestring you prefer. read more

Overall this facility is well run and clean. Staff are helpful and courtious. I am impressed with the pools and play area for my children. My wife and i love the classes such as zumba and hot yoga. I was a member for a 1.5yrs and recently decided to cancel my membership after purchasing a home gym. After reading their FAQ on how to cancel it says you have to have advance written notice. I sent an email through their messaging app thinking that would be sufficient and if not it says they respond within 24hrs so I would find out quickly. After 5 days without getting a response I went to the service desk and asked if they canceled my membership and they said no that I had to sign in person. So I did it that day and they said I would be charged for an additional month. A week later I got an email saying my membership would be canceled a month from that date. I responded to the email giving my whole story how I canceled two other times before that and got no response. After getting another credit card charge I called corporate and they said they would reimburse me up until the date of the second time I canceled. Other than them stealing my money from poor customer service the gym is nice with all the features but they are reluctant to make repairs. They have had two broken drinking fountains for two months now. They removed a broken bench in the locker room that was replaced about 6 months later so there was no where to sit in that section to get dressed. You have about a 50/50 chance on whether the showers will have soap. The employees are friendly in person but unfortunately the gym is overcrowded and people leave their towels laying around all the time so it's a mess. read more

Best gym there is in Canton! Some say it is pricey, but to be honest, the membership price is worth all the amazing amenities! You will always find a machine you want workout on because they are just so many that you don't have to wait for someone to get done using one! There are machines for everything that you can possibly think of, maybe more! The Group Fitness classes are perfect for those who have a tight schedule and don't have much time to workout; these classes are included in the membership so they're free! The classes also are a whole pack of exercises packed together for a rigorous workout! You can feel the difference when you compare yourself before starting and after finishing the class! They also have great trainers who are always there to help you with whatever your fitness need may be. There's also 2 hot tubs, a sauna, 2 indoor swimming pools with a slide, and 1 outdoor pool for kids and adults which also has a slide! The locker rooms are great too with towel service, soaps, blowdryers, steam room, and ample shower cubes! There's also a rock climbing area with different levels and courts for basketball, racquetball, etc. LifeCafe is a great place to eat healthy food and it is different because their menu items are specifically designed by the trainers and nutritionists for achieving fitness goals, so cutting out all that unnecessary fat from outside food! At the same time, the food is delicious!! I love LifeTime and really recommend it to anyone looking to join a full-fledged awesome gym which has everything you need! read more

The facilities are very nice and they have just about everything you could need. The problem is that the place is a complete zoo much of the time, the rates are exceedingly high, and some of the staff are rude. Their sales reps work on commission and are basically like used car salesmen. They won't give you any prices online, they make you fill out a form and talk to someone so that their salesmen can go to work on you. It took 4 emails giving the online rep a ton of information over and over again before I could even get any prices. When I move to an area and I'm looking at 6 or 7+ gyms, this is really annoying. All I want is prices and a quick walk around the facilities, not to tell them my life story, schedule an appointment, discuss "fitness goals" with some stranger or talk about classes and overpriced trainers I have no interest in. With Life Time it's like you're applying for a mortgage. Finally, a week and several emails later I got some prices. It came out to about $80 a month (before the sign-up fee he didn't tell me about). I looked around pretty extensively in Canton and the surrounding area, and it's a really bad place to try to find somewhere decent to workout. I decide to just go ahead and pay it so I have somewhere to workout for a few months as it's very convenient since it's right next to the place I'm staying at for a few months while I look for a house. The basketball courts are a huge plus, and it had already been 2 weeks since I worked out, I was going stir crazy. I walk in fully ready to sign up and pay the high fees. They seem annoyed that I'm a walk in and didn't make an appointment. I fill out a bunch of paperwork and they ask if I've talked to anyone. They call one of their used car salesmen down to give me a tour. He asks if I've talked to anyone and I tell him I talked to a "web specialist" online and gave him his name. They say no one with that name works there and asked me to pull up the email on my phone. I don't have internet on my personal phone, only my work phone, so I can't pull it up (I check later and the name was correct and so was the location I was inquiring about). I go sit down in his office and he asks me a bunch of questions. He's really interesting in knowing what I do for a living, probably wanting to see whether he thinks I can afford it so he knows how much time to waste on me before moving on to the next mark. He seems annoyed that I'm a walk-in and annoyed that I can't commit to a membership beyond 2 or 3 months since I'm not sure where I'll be living, but he takes me on a tour anyway. The free weight and cardio areas are a complete and total zoo. There is practically someone on every single piece of equipment there. In fact, there are probably more people there than there are pieces of equipment. Now I understand why they want to schedule appointments so bad. They want you in there during off hours so they can sign you up before you see how completely packed it is much of the time. The entire time he's acting completely smug and annoyed. So now we go back to his office to talk about prices. For 2 months it would come out to about $200 after sign-up fee, or $100 a month. That's more than my electricity bill. An extra $10 or $15 a month if I remember correctly if I want to use other Life Time Fitness gyms in the US (why they charge for this, I don't know, it's not like you can use two at the same time). You have to pay a sign up fee, which is ridiculous, though common for metro-area corporate gyms. You have to sign up with a credit card, that's because when you cancel they want to extract one more payment out of you. Like most sleazy corporate gyms they require 30-days notice to cancel and make it difficult to cancel. They need your credit card on file so they can charge you an extra $80 when you cancel a day late. After walking in intending to sign up and pay their high fees, they managed to successfully talk me out of it with their sleazy salesmen and overcrowded facilities. I ended up going to Summit on the Park instead, which has facilities that are just as nice, but less than half the price for residents, and still cheaper for non-residents. The weight/cardio area is not as large but it's nowhere near as crowded so it's a lot easier to get a workout in. Sign-up was easy, I just went online, checked the prices, filled out my information and paid by credit card. No need to talk to any used car salesmen, make appointments, or give them my life story. No need to provide 30 days before canceling, you just pay in advance for however many months you wantt. That is how gyms should be, not like sleazy corporate gyms like Life Time. After the tour I had no interest in working out Life Time fitness, but I was definitely interesting in buying their stock. They must make an absolute killing judging by the prices and number of people. read more

I was repeatedly kicked off of equipment, to make way for the "TEAM Training" (workout classes). To give you an example of how restrictive TEAM makes your workout experience....there are 16 Treadmills in the last two rows of Treadmills, all of which are reserved ($60/mo clients cannot use these), and these are "off-limits" for three hour intervals throughout the day, including peak hours. I was informed by management to "curtail my workout times", to cater to the TEAM Fitness Classes. I had also been rudely kicked off other "Free Motion" equipment for the above stated reasons. I've already taken up these issues with management, and their only reply is that TEAM Fitness members are entitled to more freedom in the gymnasium than regular members. I quit today. I criticized the manager to his face, and he had that same blank stare of indifference he's had in all my conversations with him, even threw some insults my way! Save your money, go to a gym that either costs less (and you expect less), or find one that actually offers ANY customer service skills on the part of their employees. read more

SO unfortunate, I have been a member here for quite some time and I have to say that I am EXTREMELY dissapointed in their customer service, and the attitudes that the people here have at this gym. As I pay $70 a month and have been a member here for years, I expected to be treated a lot better than I had. Do not waist your time at this Life Time location. A huge disappointment, they're staffing is down right inconsiderate. Switched my membership to the Novi, MI Life Time.. in hopes that it will be better, the overall quality of the gym is great, a long with the services. However, the staffing is terrible. read more

While the facility may be up to par it was a pain in the rear to cancel my account. They continued to charge my card for 3 months after attempting to cancel. They make you jump through a lot of hoops to even cancel in the first place (an in person "consultation"), etc. Will not consider joining their gyms again. read more

I was thrilled to learn that the Lifetime Center in Canton MI has a childcare facility and I could bring my 1 year old so that I could work out. While the childcare staff were friendly, they are young (very young) adults and gym employees apparently with no or minimal childcare experience. They would call me 20 minutes after I began my workout for two weeks straight because my daughter was crying and they couldn't tend to her because they were "busy". One day I happened to look back upon leaving the childcare room and noticed my daughter was on the outside of the locked door. She could've easily gotten out of the room and no one would have noticed. I was steaming mad, I should have been done with them then but I was desperate for a solution to lose my baby weight. I ended up switching my loyalty membership to month to month so that I could see if it would work out with my daughter in the center. It didn't, so I had to cancel. That's when the shit show began. I originally tried to cancel and was presented with this option so that's the only reason I consented to switching to a monthly membership to begin with. I switched within the designated time frame. They magically lost this paperwork. The guy who signed me up told me several months ago that they would locate the paperwork and cancel me immediately. It never happened. Meanwhile, I get daily emails with monthly charges and late fees. They would have undoubtedly been charging my card still but since that card has since been replaced they cannot withdraw funds automatically and are harassing me for money I don't owe. I went to the center and after an hour of waiting around since the girl who was working at the front desk disappeared, they finally located the person who initially registered me. He gave more promises of how they would locate my paperwork and resolve the matter - nothing has changed. I've tried to contact the member services manager repeatedly. She doesn't return calls. This company's customer service is absolutely horrid. When I was waiting for the hour when I went into the gym, there was another woman waiting who was even more livid than I was. I had to "catch" an employee and demand that they find someone to help us.Yes, there were many employees walking back and forth, all avoiding us waiting at the member services desk. On a side note I signed up primarily for the fitness classes only to find that there were never any available after work (5p). Avoid this gym at all costs. I am also a member at the new Planet Fitness in Belleville. This $10 gym far surpasses expensive Lifetime in the client services department. read more

We have been members here for last 2 years. Overall, we love to go here and workout. However, like anything else there are pluses and minuses. The gym on weekdays is pretty crowded and it is hard to get equipment like bench to workout on. However, most members are nice and courteous , hence can take turns most of the times. Some bins of sanitary napkins are always empty. I believe that they are never replenished. The mens shower areas and even toilet floors always seem to have towels lying around. Though i think lifetime is eventually to be blamed, it becomes utmost responsibility of every member to keep the place tidy and not knowingly ruin it. I am sure they would not have done it if it were their own home. There is an attitude "I pay for this and hence i can do what i want". It saddens me when i see this behavior which otherwise would have made a better workout experience for all. read more

I've been a member on and off for about three years. The child care center is a godsend to parents and the pool is great for taking the kids to. My only complaint is they could use more stalls in the Family locker room -- it's tough to be in there at busy times with a mixed gender group of kids because they have a limited number of showers and you can't take the kids into the main locker rooms if they aren't all the same gender. read more

Positive: Open 24 hrs, variety of equipment, classes etc Negative: Dirty. People leave towels laying all over upstairs. The locker rooms can get disgusting. Staff does not always enforce rules. I don't want kids around me when I'm trying to work out. Children under 12 are not permitted upstairs but sometimes people eill try to sneak them upstairs anyways and leave them unattended. The gym is not your daycare. Also, I've had issues with women bringing their boys into the locker room. There's a sign thst says SAME SEX CHILDREN ONLY right outside the locker room and I come out of the shower one day and there was a boy, probably 8 or 9, sitting on the bench outside the showers with his mom! I was so mad, I complained and nothing was done. I've also had my membership just keep going up and up. When I first joined over 10 yesrs ago I paid $45 a month, now its close to $70! I finally cancelled to go somewhere cheaper, and they'll give you s hard time about canceling. It was really nice when it first opened but now it seems run down read more

I need group fitness classes as part of my exercise regime and Life Time Fitness definitely has a great group fitness program. There are classes at all times of the day to suit any schedule. There is a mix of strength, cardio, and full body workouts. The instructors are great. My favorite instructors include Beth K (barbell strength, CRT: cardio resistance training, and Strike Kickboxing), Suzy A (Kickbox Jam, Strike Kickboxing, and TCX, which is another strength/cardio interval class that works the entire body), and Laura B (barbell strength). read more

For an overall complete body workout you can't beat the Fitness Classes that are offered in studios 1 and 2. Instructors have always been helpful and are always open to suggestions when the classes become a little bit tedious. If you don't find the classes challenging enough? Put another riser on your bench....grab the 12 lb weights instead of the 10's.....it's not all up to the instructor to get the results that you've been looking for. Only thing I don't care for is the new shower curtains in the men's locker room....why does half top of curtain have to be see-thru? Would prefer to shower in private and not have some weirdo looking in at me. I drape a couple extra towels over the curtain rod now. Do they have the same type of curtains in the womens locker room? Lifetime as a Franchise is awesome but the quality of clientele depends on the location. The Canton location accommodates a large number of members from Dearborn/Canton area which is mostly Lebanese/Albanian/Caldean/Romanian etc. This type of clientele results in machines and facilities being misused often. Because of this I drive out of my way to go to other Lifetime locations even though they may be out of my way. Lifetime Management does nothing to address this issue since a major part of their revenue comes from Dearborn members i.e., with VIP passes etc. read more

I've been a member here for over 6 years. I've been a regular for almost 2 years. Yes, they charge much more than other gyms, but if you are one of those people that only go to gym once or twice a week, then you have no right to complain. I come 6, and sometimes 7, days a week. Their equipment is well-maintained, their classes are awesome (I recommend the Kickboxing class - very intense, and Zumba with Shyam - the most fun full body workout you will ever have), and Yoga is available, and it's all part of your membership. There are 2 indoor pools and one outdoor pool, 2 hot tubs, and a dry heat sauna. The locker rooms have steam rooms and are equipped with towels, shaving cream, hair gel, and lotion. There are also 2 full basketball courts, racket ball courts, and rock walls. There's also a child care center that tends to your kids, if included in your membership, for up to 2 hours. Overall, Lifetime Fitness is a kickass gym and I would not even think of going anywhere else. read more

I have never been so disrespected until I went to a Lifetime to get a membership. Honestly I would never ever recommend a person to life time and make sure all my friends leave life time because of my experience. I was lied to , disrespected and threatened that if I don't stop complaining. I would not be able to get a membership. All because I wanted to be treated fair. It all started by me and my brother who is 6 years old, My cousin and his 3 kids and also 3 of my friends who were on the way getting memberships. That is a total of 9 new members. That they will be losing and more. Basically I called and asked if me and my brother can be on the account they all said yes. So I go in and sign up and then he tells me I can't. I told him you have to by him separate. I told him were not signing than. So I called the other Lifetimes in the area and they told me yes as long as he is your blood brother and has the same last name. So I went to sign up with Novi, I guess the manager got mad he is losing his commission and called the other gyms and told them they better not. Then I call member relations who also no nothing about your policies. Babs a manger herself told me if he is your brother. Yes you can as long is he is your brother. I told no problem I'll bring your birth cert. then she calls me say sorry no you can't I don't think life time is the right gym you should go somewhere else. While I was talking and trying to prove my point she hangs up in my face and rejects calls. I call back to talk to Bridgett who was rude from the time she answered the call. She off the back says if you don't like it don't sign up. Then she threatened me tell me if I don't stop calling asking for a manager. She will jeopardize my membership and not allow me. All I was trying to do is speak to a manager and I was rudely disrespected. I have a lot of issues and too long to type and would like to talk to someone not from member relations because I was disrespected Also before looking in to the issue there own relation management team and the other gyms agreed that my brother was allowed on my member ship as long as my last names matched and stayed in the same household. They basically gave me an oral agreement. Another issue that upset me is how they lied about saying that every member pays the same price and said " Not one member pays less or more than another" . He said he is sure and positive. When I proved him wrong he changed the subject and said they should have not told you how much there paying. That is actually considered false advertisement. Which is against the law. Should not tell customers that all members pay the same price when they don't. So Lynn the VP (who said by me talking to her would be a waste of time) I really do not want to make this a huge issue. I just want to join the gym with little brother and pay fair price like all the members that's all. This is just me and my brother. I been lied to, mistreated, falsely advertised to, disrespected and my character defamed by sending out emails and warning other people and gym about me. When I did nothing wrong at all. Like I said all want to do is join with my brother and peaceful go to the with my brother and work out that's all and pay a fair price like the others seen he advertise not one person pays less or more. I also have another one of my friends that was in the sale office with the sales manager when he made that comment multiple times over and over. Every time I prove them wrong a new policy pops in place. Can you explain to me how Do I bring my Dad a 81 year old man with Alzheimer's and bad heart conditions and mom cannot be a member because of religion. Just for my little brother a 6 year old boy who is trying to get out the house and have him stay active. Like I mentioned my parents have no problem signing there crooked waiver form. They just proved to me all Lifetime Fitness cares about is the money and not there members. For god sake Schools, all other gym, sports program all allow older brothers to sign or take them in. Look at the civic centers as long as you have family member over 18. I am his blood brother from same mom and dad and in the same household. All they could think about is more money. I called and emailed to talk to management ( not one time did I swear or was disrespectful.)and they had a cop calling me saying I was harassing. ( All my voice mail said will someone please from management call me. The funny part is I am in Michigan and they called me from Minnesota. All because I wanted an apology and a answer because I was Dis-respected by their VP Lynn. It looks like they only care about money. Don't waste your money there are gyms just as good for fraction of the cost. They don't even follow there own mission statement. read more

I must begin by stating that I am a Jewish and Black man with a darker skin son. After taking my son to the store for new pool shoes and pool toys I headed over to the Canton Location of Lifetime Fitness and was denied access to the pool because they did not believe I could possibly be my sons father. After my shock wore off I was hurt. For fear of hurting my sons feelings further I held my tongue and cancelled my membership, and quickly notified my lawyer. In the year 2015 50 years after the march to Selma it is hard to believe that such bigotry exist so openly. read more

I just joined about a month ago and have been loving their group classes. They get packed, but once you get in they are a lot of fun. The Zumba, Yoga, Step, and Cardo Kick Boxing instructors are great. I am enjoying working out again and get a variety of classes from which I can choose. read more

The child center is UNSAFE!!!!!!!!! My 4 year was punched in the face by a 10/12 year old and the child center could care less!!!! The manager was rude to me when talking to me on the phone about the situation and refuses to take any responsibility for what happened to my son, when in the care of lifetime child center. I can not express how upset I am with this gym. We all know that this is an expensive gym you would think the child center would be very well watched. read more
