Abby Free is a smaller church (around 120 folks) that has a little more grey hair than some…read morechurches, but don't let that scare you. It's a solid, biblically conservative, gospel-oriented Church where the pastors (Randy Lemke & David Dreger) model expository preaching, reformed theology (which mostly means reformed soteriology & Biblical Counseling), and a high view of the Lord and the Scripture. The church continually labors toward a culture of graciousness and lovingkindness, and Christ is exalted at Abby Free. For those curious about the programs, they have basically all the basics covered: there is a good youth ministry program that meets on Tuesday nights which attempts to cultivate a balance of enjoyment and theological education, while also bringing the gospel message to the kids in the community. There's an after school children's program on Thursday where the church reaches out to both local single moms and their kids. There are multiple small groups that study both topical books and books of the Bible, and there is a culture that's open to being creative and gospel-driven in creative ways. The Sunday School curriculum is "Generations of Grace", which is both engaging and substantive (no moralistic bible stories here). For those curious about the music, it's basically all accordion music, all the time. Abby Free is home to the largest accordion ensemble in Western Canada. It's worth the trip out just for that...how often does a person get to see a worship team composed of 2 dozen accordions doing a dubstep/polka rendition of "Oceans"? Abby Free isn't the biggest church in town, and it certainly isn't the flashiest. It IS a place where your whole family can grow in the Lord and it's definitely a church where you'll find a place to serve and a bunch of folks who are passionate about God, his word, his Son, and his Gospel. If you're looking for a church in Abbotsford and you're tired of some of the "all flash and no substance" options out there, I'd recommend it enthusiastically. Also, I may have exaggerated a bit about the amount of accordions you can expect to see.
