I am in my mid-seventies and decided to learn music theory and while doing so it became quickly apparant that I needed to take piano lessons.
my first attempt was to find a teacher but in doing so i chose a storefront music lesson place and it was absolutely useless.....for a couple of months.
i quit that place and after several days of research I discovered Lieras studio. Beth Lieras is my teacher and i am totally happy with her. Beth also teaches my wife who is just beginning as well.
Beth is methodically teaching me the important techniques of playing and in the process is helping me undo some of the bad habits i picked up. Beth has degrees specifically in "music teaching" and it shows.
i am looking forward to and plan to keep taking lessons from Beth.
i think she would be a perfect match for any new or continuing student.
This is my earlier review:
Beth Lieras is my piano teacher. I am in my 70's and was interested in leaning music theory. I soon realized that in order to better learn theory it would be greatly helpful to learn to play the piano. I first started lessons at a storefront music lesson establishment and for a month I experienced no progress so I quit and looked for another teacher. Luckily I found Beth who has been rigorously re-training me in proper technique (unlearning some of the bad habits learn or more accurately "not" learned before) One of the reasons I tried Beth was that she has been formally trained and educated in music and teaching music. The reason I will continue with Beth is that I am systematically learning good technique and she has been very patient and has a specific plan to her lessons. She uses the "tanara" app to list the current lessons, and the app has the ability to record your practice, provide a recording sample of what the lesson should sound like and on occasion, a you-tube of the piece to be practiced. I am very happy with my progress and recommend Beth to anyone thinking of learning piano and enjoying it! read more
