This little store has fulfilled a local need for decades; I'm guessing they've been here since the neighborhood was founded in the mid-1920's. For the history-buff, that would be reason enough for a quick peak! But they also offer some lovely traditional Austrian food items. There's the Brimsen made from raw sheep's milk -- delicious! There's a tasty Liptauer which I'm pretty sure (I'll ask next time I'm there again) is made in the traditional manner with Brimsen and paprika. They have open salt pickles and vinegar pickles that you can buy individually just like at the market. And their cakes, "Golatschen" (danishes) and other baked goods are simply divine. Their selection of whole grain breads is also wonderful. You can really get some high quality breads you wouldn't even find in an ordinary bakery. They also have fresh produce and some grocery shelf basics. The prices are definitely higher than at regular supermarkets or bakeries. You're paying for the location and convenience. It's worth a trip if you want to experience an old-fashioned Austrian Greißlerei. And the location is great if you're headed for one of the nearby hikes and need some "Reiseproviant" (provisions). The bakery and deli items are of a quality that makes the extra expense a worthwhile treat.

Doch als ich den supermarkt verlassen wollte, zog mich jemand mit voller gewalt auf den arm. Ich dachte es war mein Freund, aber es war ein aggresiver mitarbeiter. Der Mitarbeiter hatte kurze braune Haare und ein Ohrring. Ich (12 Jahre alt) und mein Freund (11 Jahre alt) fragten ihn was passiert und antwortete nicht und zwang mich und mein Freund die Taschen aufzumachen. Wir sagten wir haben nichts genommen und öffneten unsere Taschen. Der Mittarbeiter fand nichts und sagte wir sollen weiter gehen, DOCH er stoppte mich wieder und kontrolierte meine Hosentaschen. Er schubste auch meine 10 jährige schwester weg als ich mich fangen wollte. Dann lies endlich er uns gehen und sagte kein entschuldigung und ging weg. WARUM NIMMT IHR AGRESSIVER IN EUREM GESCHÄFT?! This is Aldi. Where does the Hofer name come from? Confusing…read more Anyways, my absolute favorite grocery store when shopping abroad. The food is fresh and cheap. What more could you ask for! Bring your own bags or do what I do, grab an empty or nearly empty box and use that as your bags. My mom and I did this when I was growing up and shopping at Aldi in my hometown. It must not be common practice in Europe though because I always get such weird looks when I'm strutting down the sidewalk with a cardboard box full of groceries. I'm helping save the planet too judge-y mcjudgepants so avert those eyes. Aldi has a great selection of affordable and amazing wine too. Their bread and pastries are baked fresh in the store. Honestly don't shop anywhere else. Go here.
