Almost all others stopped several weeks ago when Yelp announced their plans to leave Europe (and all other countries except US and Canada). So, this is mostly just a note to myself for 2018. 2) Reason number two is that rascóns are sold only once a year before the Reyes Magos holiday. Nobody knows what LIDL and their competitors will sell next year. Anyway, this year LIDL brought an awesome product to the market (I tried others too). It tastes better than others. It looks better (important if you post stuff online). It is also 30% cheaper :))) For those who never bought a rascón - be careful, they put a figurine of one of the kings inside every pie. Don't break your teeth! Whoever finds a figurine inside their piece is supposed to get very lucky in the new year. I will buy rascón here in 2018!

The products and prices are similar to what you find in other food shops but there are some differences and it was a real fun to explore those differences tonight. If you are a frequent visitor to Mercadona or Lidl like me, visit Consum once in a while even if it takes a bit of extra driving. I felt like I went abroad today - different brands, store brands, packaging design, even fruits and vegs seem to be different... Polite staff will greet you and ask you if you need assistance (unusual in Spain). This shop will make you want to move to Quesada, seriosely. Will be back 100%.

I often visit the area and I prefer to buy food here when possible instead of visiting Mercadona in Torrevieja. The reason - it is less busy here most of the time. Prices and products are the same as in other Mercadona stores in the area. One final thing that sets this store apart - they have new lightweight plastic shopping carts that are not locked. You don't need to insert a coin to get one. Seems to be an experiment that never spread to their other supermarkets. Small detail that makes a difference. Will be back.

There was a wide variety of "fresh" (over-ice seafood available at this location. There were plenty of drinks available as well as yogurts and desserts. There is a connected room with drugstore type products also. In addition, there store houses an abundance of libations. This market is adequate for your every day shopping needs. There are some 14 stores in Spain operated by their local partner (Overseas Imports S.L.). They also sell products from Waitrose, another British retailer. The concept is quite unique. Almost all food and drinks are imported to Spain from the UK (including bread, milk, soft drinks etc) while other foreign retailers in Spain carry a mix of mostly local Spanish food and some imported food (French Carrefour, German LIDL and Aldi). Iceland is different, it serves real fans who prefer frozen food from the UK over the fresh food grown in Spain :) I found a frozen paella (manufactured in Spain), it probably traveled from Spain to the UK and back! The store in Torrevieja opened in 2008. All staff is English and they are always polite and helpful. The store is kept in good order. There's a small cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. The location serves as a networking point for expats. There's an "Hablamos Español" announcement at entrance, looks like they want to attract more Spanish customers. I shop here from time to time and I personally recommend beers and frozen desserts. Frozen ready meals are great too if you want to stock up some food to avoid frequent visits to food stores. If you never visited Iceland - you really should, after all this is the only place in Spain where "Diet Coke" is "Diet Coke" not "Coca Cola Light" :) It was fun to find out recently: Iceland the retailer operates three supermarkets in Iceland the country (since 2012).

At 2:31 pm an employee approached us and rudely said: "it's closed, you have to pay, now!" Directing us to the cash registers. They had already closed the shutters and we couldn't leave (kidnapping?). Finally a security guard arrived and opened the door halfway without giving us time to return the trolley inside and therefore also losing the euro used to unlock it. What a shame. At 2:39 pm the shop was empty and closed. They shouldn't have let us in or warned us that they were about to close. Obviously we will never set foot in a Masymas supermarket again.

Clean hall, wide choice of food and drinks, reasonable prices (especially considering their seafront location). You need a Masymas if you are renting an apartment instead of staying in a hotel, which is very common. The store was quite busy when I visited - people were loading up on wine and jamón after the day spent on the beach. I guess they deliver to homes, there was a delivery van parked outside. You can sign up for their loyalty program in-store and get some discounts.
