Es war eines der großen Bauvorhaben in der oberen Füßgängerzone. Im August 1977 wurden die beiden Anwesen Beck (ehemals Cafe Beck) und Schäfer abgerissen. Die Lücke zwischen Fußgängerzone und dem Schlossplatz wurde mit einem Neubau geschlossen. Nach nur 15-monatiger Bauzeit stand das neue Gebäude. Besonderen Wert war auf ein Altstadt gerechtes äußeres Erscheinungsbild gelegt worden. Die Dachlandschaft nahm die Umgebungs-bebauung auf und auch zur Fußgängerzone hin wurde Wert auf eine filigrane Fassade gelegt. Am 3.Januar 1979 war es dann soweit: Das neue Schloßcafe wurde eingeweiht. Inhaber war Klaus Fritz,der das neue Cafe mit unermüdlichem Fleiß zunächst bis Dezember 1983 alleine führte.Zum 1.
