While I really like the comedies played in the English Theatre, "Orphans", which I saw lately, was truly a masterpiece and probably the best one so far. It is a very small and cozy theatre having merely one small stage within a room for approximately 100-150 guests. It is therefore recommended to book and reserve in advance. Card prices are very moderate, ranging around 20€ per person and depending on the seating. Students get a considerable discount. The Theatre sells drinks and snacks at a small bar in the lobby at reasonable prices. For more than two years, I have seen every single play in the English Theatre of Hamburg and will continue to do so. I can recommend it to anyone.

They serve wine, beer, pretzels and the lot. The theater itself is rather big. I am not sure how many people fit there, but theres a Parkett and Balconies (loges). I was sitting almost at the top of the parkett area and naturally its built in a slope so everyone was able to see the scene without problems (except for me, who was unlucky to have the tallest man in Hamburg in front of her :( ) Evita was in english and there were subtitles (actually supratitles?) on a big screen hanging on top of the scene. that was quite annoying, people had to twist their necks to be able to read. It was either read or watch the show. you cant multitask, fortunately for me my english is better than my german, so i was able to understand the musical without referring to the sub/supratitles I dont have any complaints. Would gladly be back if there's another interesting show (in english)

It's a mid-sized venue, which (I assume) holds a few thousand people. There's no seating, thankfully, but around the stage the standing area is tiered by quite high steps, meaning that even the smallest person will have a good chance of beign able to see the stage. Tip: The beer is reasonably priced (for a concert venue) at EUR3, but you can easily bring that price down by picking up a few cups which all have a EUR1 deposit, which metallers don't seem to care about so much. Without trying to find any cups, or even moving from my spot, I brought the beer price down to EUR2 per beer :)

While it's not horrible by any means, my boyfriend, who is a trained sound engineer, kept complaining. There are a few petty issues I have with the theater, however. The toilets are located in the performance hall itself - if you'd like to use the toilet during the show, you're ushered off into the neighboring pub. There are poles extending down from the ceiling in the middle of row 6, and if you're stuck behind them, you won't see a blasted thing. Overall, it's a decent theater, but that's where it ends. It attracts some great names at decent prices, though, so if you're looking to see a performance by some of Hamburg's originals, this looks to be the place to go.
