You pay at that counter or at the bookstore counter at the front of the business when you are done. There is seating upstairs were many of the foreign language books are. It is an enjoyable place to have a snack and read. A lot of students hang out here. They do expect you to purchase something if you are going to occupy some of the tables.

The inside of the shop is filled with books and old records. However, there was plenty of outdoor seating; I'm so glad we had the opportunity to sit down here. They have teas from all over the world and homemade tea as well. The tea shop owner was very friendly. You don't really have that problem in Paris since the skies are so grey, but it's true, talking to someone you first meet while wearing shades can come off as a little bit snob. So inside the charming, book-filled cafe at a cute corner table, I followed my companion's lead and ordered a home made ice tea not expecting much but it was fantastic.Thirst-quenching, well-dosed and just a wee bit sweet, I downed it and immediately ordered another.
