We were looking for a local tax preparer we could establish a relationship with. I appreciate once…read moreI uploaded my documents, they processed the return quickly. However, our experience was confusing and disappointing. They charged us 64% more than what we thought we would be charged when we signed the agreement; a significant amount of money. They told us afterward this was due to the individual attention needed to give to our return because we were new clients. The thing is, they had last year's return to nearly cut/paste from, nothing changed. Also, to get started, I had to reach out to find out what was needed since I'd signed the agreement a few months ago, and I was emailed a 51-page, photocopied checklist to go through myself. If they knew from the beginning that they were going to charge so much more simply because we were new clients, at the very least, a courtesy email up front letting us know to expect we would likely be charged more would have been a step toward a collaborative approach, which is how they describe they work on their site. There was no collaboration with us. When we got our return, there was no explanation or walk through, or call to summarize; instead it started with some confusing pages indicating we should front load the IRS a total of over $2,000 throughout the upcoming year. I had to pursue a call to understand what this meant, and once on the call, was advised that this was recommended by the software, as a conversation starter. I don't think anyone intended to have a conversation with us at any point about this, and asked what about our situation indicated that we would be in position to need to take these steps. It was evident that the two people I was speaking to were scanning the paperwork to come up with a reason why the software would make such a recommendation, and that in fact, there was no reason we would fall into a category where this would apply. It was a concerning call, because it was clear they had no idea what my return included, or what the recommendations meant, and so on; and the call had been on the schedule for quite a few days so there could have been some sort of preparation. I voiced my concerns when I received the excessively high invoice, and it was explained to me that all of the time spent justified the expense. It was a seemingly settled matter on their end until I typed a review on the business website, which unfortunately doesn't get posted anywhere. Once the review was submitted, however, it prompted a leadership response acknowledging our concerns and there was an offer to refund our money. While we appreciate the gesture, we declined because they performed some of the service they said they would: we have a filed return, so we owe them for filing a return. They just tremendously increased the price for services that they didn't provide, and didn't own up to it until I posted a review.

What a great firm. LeAnn is awesome. I have known her for many years and she is very professional…read more I would highly recommend them. R. Herr Warrenton, VA
